Thumbs down I hate my tip

This is my 3rd porsche in 3 years and I just hate tip! Slow and 325hp with only 5 gears? *joke the shifting timing is very stupid and slow. I cannot afford a PDK and there are no 6 speed in Taiwan's market.

Is a conversion possible? To 6 speed? Isn't the labor pretty inexpensive? I remember hearing that labor was inexpensive in Asia (can't remember where) and that people were doing more mods based on low labor cost. Buy some parts used and convert it!!

I asked about the transform to stick earlier on this forum and all of them disagree. I guess they didn't know I was in Taiwan. Yes our labour are cheap here compare with states. HMMMMM.....

The parts will still be expensive and the vehicle ID number will specify tiptronic. So will the warranty.

I don't blame you for not liking Tip but someone else might love it . It simply means the car is not "the one" . Time to move on . There's no sense in keeping a car that every time you drive it there's this cloud of unhappiness . Even if you can't buy another Porsche right away .. at least you'll hedge the financial loss of a depreciating car (plus expensive service) selling it. . You can sit on the sidelines until you get the right car.

I'd rather have no car .. or a much cheaper car ... than the wrong car.

I completely agree with yrralis1. It seems far wiser to pursue a plan of exchanging this (selling your car for one that has the specifications that fill your need and wants) than to try to turn your current car in to something that it simple is not.

Are you sure you drive the tip properly? In 'D' mode it is adaptive and it can run like an old lady if not driven spiritedly. In M mode it's up to you. I know guys who drive tips and can make them fly.

I have a tip in my passat wagon and I can fly with that. I run it up to redline and then shift. Manual mode is great, and my '07 sport model has paddle shifters.

It's a good question to sort out - is the OP getting the most out of how tip? Maybe not... I assumed so, as he's an enthusiast (member of this forum), on his 3rd p-car, etc. However, maybe I ***/u/me to much.

On the other hand, if he's tried it, and still doesn't like it (giving benefit of the doubt for now), and if there truly aren't any 6-speeds in the Taiwan market, it isn't helping to tell him to sell that and buy another car. I'm sure there are plenty of people on this forum who've dumped more in mods than the conversion would cost (although I am speaking from ignorance on the cost/feasibility issue - again, the cheap labor is probably a positive factor), and that might be his only solution to get a manual shift in his market.

If that's the case, he might improve resale as others would probably find that desirable and scarce. Regards to warranty, many 997's are out of warranty or will be there soon. I wouldn't assume that he still has warranty left, or maybe that's not a big issue...

thanks for the inputs guys!
Stick, Tip, PDK, if I were in states now. I definitely have bought stick too bad due to region difference. The market here has maybe 1% of stick 997/987 Porsche Taiwan offered tiptronic P cars because of all the environmental matters. Traffic, small and short roads, etc. My conclusion, I'll wait either PDK or a nice low mileage 6speed.
