drilled and mounted front plates in all my Porsches, including RS.

not a big deal and the front plate doesn't bother me at all.

M3 parked in front of my house this morning with a ticket on the windshield...

No front plate.

I don't think it's worth it, IMHO.

Doesn't the order have a date on it??

Until then, a big middle finger to the law ! In my state, they allow people with the old "green lettering" plates to drive with just the rears, yet anyone with the newer plate MUST put the front on too? What kind of fairness is that? Well, I won't play fair either. Here's to crossing the fingers for many more years of no-front-plate driving !
i'm in boston as well. requested not to have the front plate installed. it is pretty wicked retarded that they require red plates to have both front/rear while old green plates are only for the rear...

nizzo - where in boston are you?

That's kinda my thinking as well. I was gong to order the tow hook mount but my wife objected. She said to look at it as a looking good tax.

Hasn't happened yet but maybe I'll change my tune as the states budget crisis
results in more scavenging by the police.

A few of my friends in plate states have used these with good success.

The even have them motorized.

God bless Pennsylvania. My wife got into a fit with a dealer who drilled holes in the bumper to put their dealership plate (i.e. free advertising.) They replaced the entire bumper as she specifically stated it before buying the car and did not take delivery until they fixed it.

I ordered the Rho-plate setup just now. Ohio State Patrol can be sticklers when they want to be. This way it's reversible if in the future the law changes, or when I go to sell the car... Thanks for the heads up!

Ducky993-

That is exactly what I want. I don't know how that will sort out mounting on a 997; esp one with a lip spoiler installed. I've seen 09-'10 CTS-V's with these and they work out very well on that vehicle. The motorized unit is da bomb. "What missing plate, Officer, can we go look at the front of my car for a minute??"

That said, it's a brilliant solution to a PIA problem for us in "those states".

I do not see how those work on a 997. Besides, what do you do? It may work for city parking but otherwise run with it folded and when cited raise it? I doubt a cop will accept that.

So far no tickets in WA state for no front plate in 10 years of driving. But I am very careful where I park because they will ticket when parking on a public street. It does seem silly to require front plate when motorbikes have no front plate and their rear plate is so small.

I am going to order one of these though so I can have it ready to go when needed. Will use with wingnuts. http://www.skenedesign.com/FPBracket/index.shtml

i doubt you would get pulled over while driving for that ..right?
You may well get pulled over and cited for that offense. It depends on the laws of your state. I imagine driving without a front plate in a state that requires both plates is the same as driving without a registration sticker where required, ie the police can stop you and cite you.

The rule seems quite fair actually.

I'm assuming that the green plates were from a time when only 1 plate was required and the red plates are form the era of 2 plates.

Since they don't make the green plates anymore the cannot expect you to have a green one on the front, but if you were given red ones, you got both and are expected to mount them.

The thinking is that the folks with green plates will eventually all transition to red as they sell the cars or the cars get junked... so those folks were grandfathered.

Is that not the situation?

I don't know if those will work on a 997. But it's a great concept. You can raise it when driving city/hwy, stow it when parked. Great stuff.

Again, the only reason states are wanting the 2-plate deal is for their radar/laser guns. It's all about revenue generation, AND NOTHING BUT. If that weren't the case, 2 plate law would be mandatory in all 50 states with both plates being illuminated for LE.
