I had the chance to take a picture of the new fuel cap for the 997/996 and Cayenne.
The cap looks different than what is shown in all the brochures.

One of the differences is that the gas cap is not painted plastic, instead the cap is covered with a thin layer of aluminum.

 

Tell me again why I need this?

 

Well, the lettering for Porsche is not black fill, the arrow is different, the 'turn to click' is upside down on the real one, and lined up with the arrow instead of above it, it's polished instead of matte, 'dremen bis click' is also in a different place, and the arrow is different as in the bottom one.

Now, is this a fuel cap that goes on the inside of the fuel door? If so, why would you spend all this money on a beautiful design that sits behind a closed door on your car? It would look nice on the outside, but that would disturb aerodynamics.

 

Nice looking piece, ashame its hidden away.

 

Impress the full service attendants at the gas station!
But would they notice?

 

Attention to detail. At least you will see and touch this piece every week, unlike some carbon cover in the engine bay.

 

Are we talking about the gas cap or the oil cap ?
