cage looks very nice. what is the rule of thumb to do or not to do a knee bar in the cage?

I'm not sure to tell you the truth but I will say this cage is the exact same as a porsche cup car cage

I can’t help but wonder the cost effectiveness of doing all of the work and time spent as opposed to just getting the Cup car. I know the up front is much much more but still.

Anyways…the car looks great! There is no doubt about it. Congrats with all of the mods and hard work you have clearly put into it. When are the carbon fiber lights going in?

If you add it all up the costs are still cheaper than a cup. Also the costs have been spread out over years. And the last thing to consider (and this is a big one) it is WAY cheaper to maintain and run. If you blow an engine on a cup.... forget it! On a 997 a new engine is 8 to 9k. Besides I never knew I would take it this far...kinda happened slowly. But I LOVE it.

Makes sense. I have no idea what a cup car costs, I have looked but never found a price on a new one.

And about the CF headlights?

I thought a factory rebuilt 3.8 is around $15k installed.

Is a new motor really under $10k?

Wow, Im so tired of this debate every time someone posts a build of turning there street car into a full blown track car.

All the naysayers come out of the woods with the same question: "Wouldn't it cost as much to just buy a cup car?"

A brand new 2010 cup car will cost you close to $220k all in (I know as a track buddy just bought one)

A used 997 cup car will cost you $130-160k depending on usage and condition and its always a gamble buying a used cup car.

A used 996 cup will cost you upwards of $90k with god knows how many miles and hours on the car. (But I'm not a 996 fan.. never will be.. so that is out of the playing cars for me)

Is a cup car a better track car than a 997S, YES........... Is a cup car a better track car than a GT3... YES

But Gomez still has to spend a lot more money to get to that point.

Plus there is only one way to buy a cup car: 100% CASH!!!!!!

Most mere mortals finance there porsche's and mod them little by little (thats what we did)

There might be $30-40k in mods done to gomez's car or my car but it has been done over 3 years and little by little. 1k here , 2k here, 6k here....

Trust me if Gomez and I had the disposable funds to have a CUP car as a track car we would have them proudly, but thats not the case.

I think we are lucky to have such nice track cars as it is.

Most people at the track cant belive that we are tracking such nice cars and love it..... we dont get the... "why didn't you just get a cup car" ...that only comes from the forums.. because people at the track know the true cost of what owning and driving a cup car is...... and that my friends is BALLER ****.

BTW I dont mean to offend anyone, and if my online tone seems harsh..sorry.. I just want to put an end once and for all to the same question we get every-time we share pictures and mods with our online brethren.

gloves was not meant to be harsh...and not aimed towards you...more of a blanket statement to all that had the same thought before or it was in the back of their minds.

I just wanted to get it out there that as amazing as cup cars are.. that not everyone can have one and a build like this will never be or try to be a cup car... but a great alternative.

everything is debatable.. hence why we are on a forum....

basically what we are doing is try to make a poor mans up car... it wont be as fast as a cup car but it wont cost as much..

sorry i wrote that before i had my green tea

You can get it installed for cheaper.

Yep under 10k for the engine. I know this since I've gone through it before. You can get an X51 for around 12k
