Paris is nuts! It's truly a nightmare location for a "car enthusiasts." I watched a lot of small accidents while we were there this past June. The majority of cars there had some damage. People play bumper cars while trying to parallel park! We were eating outside a restaurant when I saw what I think was a Citreon plow into the rear of a Renault so he could make space for his car. That was just the first accident I saw.

Drivers there don't car too much for the rules of the road either. I can't tell you how many close calls I witnessed. Heck, a small wagon backed into me while I was walking accross a street in a light controlled cross walk!

Good lord I would never park a Porsche in Paris. If you do have to, don't set the parking brake. That way when people nudge you, your car will move instead of crumpling! There's a lot of great videos of Paris Parking technique : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzxGJ...eature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nif2g...eature=related

Unless you have family and friends in the surrounding boroughs that could store the car for you...would you think about selling? What about a storage facility (american, Moore etc)close by...you would have to travel but the car would be safe. I kept a Z06 in one for a while..ran about $100 month..think size was 10X20 ft

I agree. I also grew up in Brooklyn and left to go to college in Albany. I visit quite often but can't imagine owning a car there, especially if I had to frequently drive the car in to Manhattan. If I lived in the center of the city, I'd just taxi and rent, unless I was so well off that I could have my car(s) catered to in my building. But if that was the case, I wouldn't be citing any issues in this forum
Whenever I visit, I taxi only, never even rent a car, and get a town car if I have to travel outside of the immediate area. Driving, parking, tolls, etc., are just too difficult to deal with anymore.
New York is still the greatest city, just not for driving.

I'm sure that on that one day a month or so when you are out on the highway in the fall heading out of the city it's real nice .

BTW --the money you save in one year of parking might even buy second place somewhere like Florida to park it .
