What we suffer for a Porsche in NY City !

Gotta share my experience last weekend.
Bring the car, nice and clean, back to my underground garage, which costs a small monthly fortune!
Won't go into how when I get into the car, each time, all the seat positions are moved as the attendants grab at every button...and open/close the doors by anything but the handle! Fingerprints everywhere, including the roof..as they do the "turn out"grab the roof exit !!
Back to the story...as I'm waiting for the attendant to come,I see the hood splashed with liquid. I'm under a leaking pipe! It smells funny..not clean water...take out a microfiber towel and ask the attendant if he can wet it for me. Rub the spot a bit and it foams up! What! Attendant tells me he put detergent on the towel for me...oh no !
No place to have a hand wash in New York City...drive to NJ--$8 toll,$20 wash and 2.5Hours traffic( wash was 5.5 miles away) to get back.
Back in the garage...hand the keys over...attendant bucks/stalls the car as it pulls away....I just have to let it go...............

I grew up in NY (High school Brooklyn and college NYU) and commuted into Manhattan daily. Within just a few days I found one particular garage that treated me (as well as my car) so well . It's rare . Most stories are like yours .

Given the price to garage a car monthly in this day and age I probably would not have a car. The amount saved in insurance, parking, depreciation , etc.. I'd just rent a car . Factor in the roads with potholes and cold snow climate .. its just too much to pay for a weekend toy. In fact if I lived in NYC there isn't much to do outside of the area when there is so much activity right there.

When I travel to NYC now it's the one place I don't rent a car unless it's just for a day. I even have one friend there who never learned how to drive at all .

I'm sure that on that one day a month or so when you are out on the highway in the fall heading out of the city it's real nice .

BTW --the money you save in one year of parking might even buy second place somewhere like Florida to park it .

I grew up here...so sorta used to it. The 2nd place isn't a joke...monthly parking is a mortgage for most pple...well north of $500 per month.

In my garage,,a park/lock..u keep the key spot is $1,500 per month !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Went thru 3 (or 4, now can't remember) different garages on the UES in the span of 2 years. Each one managed to nick, scrape, and/or dent my car in one way or another. Only time I actually got recompense was when the attendant drove the car out with my side view mirror hanging off the door. Couldn't talk his way out of that one. NYC is a great place to visit, but unless I'm Jerry Frickin' Seinfeld, I'll never live there again.

P car in Manhattan attendant garage

I grew up in Queens, went to school and worked in Manhattan.

Now live in Southeast florida, P car is not a DD, sits under a car cover plugged into a charger. I cannot even fathom owning a P car where the attendant drives and parks it. No way, I'm way too **** for that.

I would definitely own a Honda Civic in Manhattan!!!

Where in queens ? It sounds like we travelled a similar geography path . I started out in Rockaway Beach.

Forest Hills, moved to Palm Beach county in 2001, and Martin county in 2008.

My family used to do summer bungalows in Rockaway Beach, in the 30th street range and at the Palace Hotel, in the 60's. I played basketball in the streets as a kid and remember Nancy Lieberman playing basketball with the guys, her family owned the Palace Hotel.

Playland and 116th Street, fond memories.......................................... ............

I hear ya with the memories !!!
Neaby stomping grounds !!

I did have a nice car but commuting in NYC really placed some wear on it but I do feel that was quite a driving lesson .

I got luckier than the Op with the garage parking though . I give him a lot of credit for owning a Porsche in the city .
