S vs non S for 2009/2010
09 and 10 versions are the same....a Carrera vs a Carrera S has many differences. For the full list visit the Porsche website. The ones that made a difference for me to get the S were more power and bigger brakes
other than whats already been mentioned, the s is also lowered a bit. If I remember right it is .2 inches lower then the non s.
If you drove both of them, it would be really hard to get the non s, I would think.

Are they the same as in an open back caliper like on the S? I thought the rotors were the same but the calipers are not and the standard Carrera has a smaller caliper.

Not true at ALL. The 997.2 S discs are thicker (same diam) and the calipers totally different (bigger).
Does it even matter? GT3 calipers are still bigger, if we are pursuing just a size here.

are those 997.2 calipers of different design? somebody was saying something i recall that it was difficult to swap pads on 997.2 car as something was different there. do you remember?
i remember somebody claimed that 997.2 C2 has same calipers that 997.1 'S' has, not sure what calipers are on 997.2 'S'.

The 997.2 has a completely new engine (DFI), new front suspension design, new PCM 3, and factory bluetooth and iPod as options. The 997.2 is also the 1st iteration where PDK is available replacing Tip.

On the 911 Carrera models, the front and rear axles are host to a new generation of brakes with anodised black, four-piston aluminium monobloc calipers. The brake calipers are now even stiffer thanks to their closed-type design. The brake disc diameters are larger: 330 mm front and rear and the rear brake discs are 4 mm thicker – for even better braking performance.
The S models have four-piston aluminium monobloc calipers that are larger, reinforced and have a striking red painted finish. The front axle has larger brake pads and thicker brake discs.
All models have cross-drilled brake discs ensuring optimum braking in the wet. The discs are internally vented for rapid heat dispersal.

It would appear to me that the S and non S are the same size discs but that the S have larger and thicker calipers.
