So I got my 2006 997S this April and love it, but I found that the sound of the exhaust needed a little more bravado. I considered Tubi and PSE but it was out of my pricerange, and looked at Gundo hack but wanted some more performance too. I decided on Borla b/c I have always liked their products and was very pleased. There was a nice deep burble at idle and off the line, but at WOT it did not wail like I expected. There was a good bit of drone from 2000-2750 rpm. It was annoying at first but I got used to it. Not a problem at highway speeds but pretty constant with non-aggressive round town driving. I've been planning a flash so I figured I could get more performance and sound if I put on cats and headers. Thanks to help from utkinpol, first911, and dave997s, I just installed x51 headers and fabspeed hi-flow cats in my garage to go along with the Borla.
Now? Wow! There is an even lower, deep burble/gurgle at idle and take off that makes the car sound like it has 500hp and at WOT the wail is exhilarating. Its not too loud with normal driving either (subjective). But most interesting of all, the drone from 2000-2750 rpms is gone! I can't explain it but am very excited. So now its nice and deep with a great wail and hopefully some performance gains (no plans to dyno). Just thought I'd share b/c I thought I would be trading more sound for more drone but I've actually cured it. I will try to post vids soon, but the car sounds ridiculously awesome now.

thanks for sharing, I guess like most cars, to do it properly it's better to upgrade the whole exhaust system in one go.

The AWE CATs make a big difference in sound. I found the headers made little difference but with PSE the CATs were too much for me. I have recently taken them off and like the sound of PSE without the CATS much better.
