My car has 47k miles on it and has developed a weep/leak. It leaks a drop or two of oil a week if driven on the weekends only, and seems to stay relatively dry when driven a few times a week.

Like others have stated above, when I took my MY 06 in for inspection and extended warranty they found that the RMS was slightly "wet" and leaking. This was 3 days before the factory warranty expired so they wanted to replace it. I never noticed any oil on the floor nor in / around the engine and I have been under my car a lot.

I guess it's hit or miss with the RMS issue.

Just to restate the obvious: The question is whether you BUY a car knowing it has an issue that the seller should address, not what percentage of engines out there, over the course of their lifetimes.....etc. I would not run to have my rms replaced if it developed a minor leak. I would not buy a car that way though. It also can be hard to distinguish between a rms leak and a IMS leak. The latter is a disaster waiting to happen (small chance but a concern). Look for a dry engine no?

Any car with a flat 6, V8, etc, will develop RMS leaks over time. Usually quite some time down the road; that being said, the garage queens can be a real problem because the seals will dry out from inadequate lubrication around the total circumference of the seal if not ran regularly, and therefore kept lubricated with a bit of oil.

does anybody have any stats on the repeat incident rates for the 997.1 series cars? meaning, if you had an RMS leak and it was repaired with a new seal, have there been any re-occurrences later? We should have some folks on this board with significant mileage on their cars that could help with details.
