Opinions on an 08 C4S...

I came across a 2008 C4S w/ 22k mi that is pretty loaded and looks great in pictures, but i was curious about your opinions on the pricing. I called the dealership (non-Porsche) today. I feel like they're stretching but the manager who i talked with who seemed knowledgeable about the car said they're not going to make much money. Shocker. The car is priced at $72k. It has everything I'd be wanting and more including:

Black/Black
6MT
Bose
Nav
Full Leather
PSE
Sport Chrono
Adaptive Seats
HRE p40s (which the dealer said cost around $10k, red flag)

Tire wear at around 70%/85% F/R according to the guy I spoke with who again seemed to know his stuff

Clean carfax, single owner, auctioned in LA and brought up here a few weeks ago. Two more years of the existing warranty. The car has already had a PPI at a Porsche dealership I respect, but no DME. If I was going to look any further into this car I would request a DME be run.

I consider the wheels to be more of a plus to be honest but of course didn’t show that on the call and acted like they were not quite my style. The painted finish wouldn’t be what I would have gotten but it’s not bad.

Kelley’s #’s for reference (excellent condition):
Trade-in $62.4
Private party $66.5
Dealer $72.5

I’d like to be able to stick to my guns at $67k but this guy seems pretty firm saying he bought it in the high $60’s. I would think this car would auction at $64k but perhaps I’m wrong. They might reduce the price in a couple weeks if it is still around, according to them.

I’ve seen similar mileage C4S ‘06s sell for $51k and $55k, 07’s sell for $64k, and then one board member who bought a similar 07 w/ 14k miles for $60k (great deal).

Your thoughts?

PS If the dealership is reading this thread, (we’ll call the dealer “E”), please disregard all discussion that does not say you should reduce your price to less than I’m thinking of offering.

I think upper '60s seems reasonable. My car was purchased in April with similar miles and while it has the X51, I paid $65k--and it's an '06 with CPO. It adds the short shift kit but otherwise seems similarly optioned as this '08.

If it's got what you want, I bet they'll work with you a bit. Now seems to be a good time.

Wait for a different year. The '08 has the most depreciation coming. If you can get an '06 in the low 50s you'll save nearly $20k for the same car.

I wouldn't go near it at 72K . In fact back when stockid was looking at cars over a month ago that car was listed.

BTW -- don't ever look at "excellent" condition . look at trade in "fair" condition --that's nearer to wholesale value and EVERY dollar above that is profit.

'08 C4s

I suggest you look further. 22,000 miles is high when there are '09 around with half that travel. $72k maybe a good number but there's alotta miles beneath those tires.

Also: why not look at a pcar dealer ? There are so few 'knowledgeable' non-Porsche dealers. You found a good one ? Why is this person not selling for Porsche ?

We all want a great car but just like anything: it requires work to find something special. My new '09 w/ pdk is a g_d sent.

I’ve been to 5 pcar dealer lots in the last month. Unfortunately my requirement list makes the perfect car hard to find. I have one in mind on a dealer lot but the ask is high and it has the aero kit on it which is not optimal for me. I am keeping a spreadsheet of potential cars with a weighted ranking system, so yes, I’m putting in work to find the right one. I only had a phone conversation with this particular dealer, and all I know is that he seemed to know pcars, don’t know if I’d call him a good dealer. The full story is that the dealership owner likes Porsches, and drives them for a couple months after buying them at auction tax free. Not a bad deal for him, free transportation in a different Porsche every other month.

A very nice 06 C2S I was eyeing at motorcars international in MO was just sold on Saturday. The price was right, but unfortunately I waited too long to act as I was talking to a private party. Who knows, it may work out for the best as almost everything seems to be lining up w/ the private party, pending a DME check.

BTW I have followed your 09 purchase, I would swim with sharks during shark week for that kind of deal.

Way overpriced. I bought my 2008 C4S Cab with under 7,000 miles for about that price. Also, the HRE P40's (which I have on my car) run a little under $5k.

Last month posted all over this forum (even in cayman section) there were deals on 2010 cars . If you are looking at an 08 car asking 72K with all those miles another 15K will get you a new 2010 car. It's two years newer , has full warranty and at 72K that is already deep pocket pricing. In fact -in general used 997 used cars have been priced high but they seemed to have dipped a little in some regions --but are still high !!!!

In fact if AWD is important then there seem to be more used Turbos in the mid 80K range. these cars cost 40 or 50K more when they were new and the gap on the used market is 15K . It's another 100 Hp on top of being proportionally ---a bargain. .

You region is not easy to shop . Look at several inventories .

If you can't find the car at the right price then just wait. It's better to have no car and save the money than to chase after the overpriced car because it's convenient.
