Home Link "light" not working...??

I have just spent 30 minutes trying to program the Homelink system. I have done this before w/many cars and while some may have taken more than others, I always managed to do it.

I am stuck with my 997 though. I can't even get the HomeLink light, the one that is supposed to blink, to activate. I have tried holding I and III simultaneously or 20+ seconds and no blinking light. I have also tried holding each of them individually and still no light after 20+ seconds.

I checked the fusebox thinking maybe that could be a problem, but I could not find a fuse for this function.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

Not to be captain of the obvious, but you do have the car on, right? (and the front fog lights cannot be on)
