Big difference is...

There is no longer an intermediate shaft in the 997.2 engines. You probably know the IS bearings in the gen. 1 engine can wear prematurely leading to catastrophic failure if unaddressed.

That seems a huge plus for a high mileage owner.

I can speak as someone who's owned both a .1S and .2Base ...

I swear, my 997.2 base is faster than my 997.1S. It's a much smoother motor and like others have said, the PASM is better as well. Fuel economy is improved. Sound of the motor is not to exciting though. I can live with it, but I have to admit I miss the grunt that my S had.

Unfortunately, the .2 do have issues with the HSFP ... mine just failed and was replaced last week under warranty. Just FYI if yours ever fails, the on-board computer will start flashing "Reduced Engine Power", your car will begin to drive like a Honda Accord and the PDK will forget to upshift. Great experience.
