Keeping the morning raspy sound?

I was wanting to keep my raspy morning exhaust sound.

quick question:

By pulling and plugging the resonator vacuum line does it:

1. void the warrantee?
2. Cause it to toss out any codes?
3. Any chance of me breaking something?
4. Will it hurt or help my performance?
5. Will it hurt or help my fuel mileage?
6. Will it keep my morning raspy sound that I love so much?
7. Has anyone done this small, 2 minute mod?

Thanks for any advice

Assuming you have PSE...

No, you won't hurt anything. Lots of guys do this.

Agreed, I did it on my car until I wired a switch to keep it on all the time.

If you are talking about the distinct sound the car has upon first start in the morning "cold start" than no, the change in pitch and added burble comes from a combination of cold engine, exhaust components and generally cooler air temp. Once the car is up to temp and the exhaust components have heated up the sound gets a little milder and less "rasspy" so to say.

I dont think there is a way to keep that sound all the time, enjoy it for what it is. Atleast you have something to look forward to each and every morning.....besides work.

Someone please correct me if I'm way off here.

Are you talking about PSE or the throaty sound from the air pump during a cold start? If its the latter unplugging the resonator flap wont do it. You will actually leave the flap in the quiet position.

You can just cap the resonator if you want more sound but it does not change the idle sound.

this is interesting, i love the morning gurgle with my cg mufflers and sw bypass, if there was anyway to extend this note i'd love to learn about it... where is the cap on the resonator located? Would this mod potentially work on DFI cars?

This red cap covers the resonator. I guess im going to buy this pricy kit and give it a shot.

Save your money, just find a 2" cap and trim it down. Gillette shave cream seems to work if you have that around.

I had this cap on mine for about a year but removed it when my exhaust got so loud that it didnt matter about the intake anymore.

Any recommendations for the newer 997.2's with the resonator built into the air intake track? Ther is a flapper valve operated by engine vacuum but does the flapper valve close or open during high rpms?

Thanks for the info,

What did you use for the intake tube plug?

you just fit the cap over the resonator opening and then fit the rubber intake tube down over the cap, fits perfect and is held in place with the clamp.

just keep in mind that this mod does not get you the nice raspy gurgle you are after, just more of a wail after 5k rpm.
