Hello All

I'm going in for window tint this afternoon on all 5 windows. What is a fair price for this job using regular tint. If anyone has done the new 3m tint could you please let me know the price and is it worth going that route?

Usually for regular tint its about $200 said and done. For higher end tint like Huper Optik or something like that (a thermal film tint that I highly recommend) it is $400+. Well worth the extra money.

 

I spent about $150 -- not sure what brand it was, but it was done well and looks great.

Huper Optik tint: What does it do differently? I've had regular solar tint on my vehicles for years and never had any problems. Paid about $200 per car. Never noticed a "haze effect or distortion. hmmmm.... What other kind of good things are you guys noticing with the Huper Optik tint?

Do these come in precut ready to install? Local installer doesn't carry these.

 

I'd pay whatever it costs as long as it doesn't look like crap around the black dotted edges of the window.

How did yours turn out?

I don't know what % my tint is, but my 09 that I bought used already had tint... the back window was darker than the side windows....

But, looks great except the back window around the periphery where the black ceramic dots are... there's obviously air bubbles, but that's okay, at least its even all round the periphery.

 

In Sydney it gets pretty hot here. With tinting, it really reduced the effort of the A/C. With summer coming up soon down under, I'm looking forward to keeping cool

I'm using 20% tint for the doors, rear quarter glass and rear window. It's dark and sometimes it gets tricky parking at night, but I got used to it and sometimes roll down the windows to see.

I'm also using 40% for the front windshield. It's completely 'illegal', as is tinting under 35% for any window, but tinting the front windshield has done the MOST in reducing the heat building up in the car since there is so much surface area vertical to the sun baking the dashboard. I can leave the car parked under direct sunlight for 5 minutes in 97 degree and it will still be relatively cool when I get back in (under 75F).

If anyone does do the front windshield, make sure you use a NON-metallic film; it'll screw with your AM radio reception (I do love listening to AM).

Howie, front window tint question... will that also interfere with the reception of a Valentine One unit mounted next to the rear view mirror?

 

Precut tint templates would not fit quite as well as a good installer creating a custom application so that the edges of the film would match the top edge of the windows. With the heatwave of late, our team's been working some serious hours in getting Diamond Cut IR Nanotint installed onto various level of cars each day. Here's the B7 with the 20% along with a shot of cars waiting in line to get the IR tint installed:







Again, here are the benefits of Diamond Cut IR over the competition:

1. 94% of infrared rejection vs. Ceramics at 75%-80%
2. 99.5% of uv blockage
3. The product consists of 0% metal substrates vs. multiply metallized ceramics.
4. the film will not affect comfort access (or the equivalent of keyless entry), am / fm, radar, etc.

 

There is nothing wrong with regular tint. It does the job well. But most regular tint (if not all) doesn’t do infrared/heat rejection very well. It makes a big difference in comfort level inside the car on super sunny and hot days. Also keeps the car warmer on cold day as it retains the heat inside the car.

For me it is on the level of buying a sports car and putting all-season tires on it. If there is a product out there that works better and has more benefits why not use it on a Porsche. No reason to skimp on something like tinting when you already spent a good chunk of change on the car itself.

Many people (including myself) also really like the way ceramic tints look. They have a bit of a blue to them from the outside, often referred to as a ‘European’ look.

As an FYI, I believe ceramics tints (maybe even the idea of window tint) were designed originally for office buildings with lots of windows.
