997.2 Price Forecasting?

First off, I hate asking "stupid" questions like this, so I apologize in advance, but I would like some input from people who have been following resale values.

I'm looking at purchasing a 997.2 Carrera S w/PDK (6spd is ok too, but would prefer PDK) around mid-late 2012 when I return from a scheduled military deployment. I'll have about $60k to play with, and am hoping by that time I can get into the above mentioned car. Am I dreaming? I could get a early 997.1 now, but I'm concerned with the issues I've read with the early models. As long as I'll be waiting, might as well go to a newer car.

I've been looking back through old for sale threads for 2-3 year old Carrera S's, but I'm not getting anywhere with my research really.

Anyone have an opinion on this? Is $60k for a 997.2 S PDK in late 2012 a reasonable forecast? Not talking about the once in a lifetime deal, more like average deal with a little negotiating. Searching AutoTrader right now, lowest price for S with PDK was $72k, with the average being around $80k. Can I expect a $20k drop in 2 years?

Again, sorry about the dumb question, but I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Hm, that might be a little optimistic. Just this year 2007 C2S were selling at auction for $60K. That's for a 3-4 year old car. Next year, I don't think a well optioned 09 C2S PDK will be easily had for $60K. That being said, there were crazy deals going for 09 leftovers earlier this year - base C2 PDK with minimal options sold for low $70s. So, if you find the right private sale, you might be able to get into a C2, but not C2S... And I'm sure dealers won't let any 09 car go with CPO for $60...

Well, I am talking about late 2012, so that would be 2 years from now, so the 09's would be falling into that 3-4 year old range. Perhaps I'll just wait slightly longer to save up a little more and hopefully get a good deal. I want the S for sure, don't plan on doing any engine work, so the extra 40hp will be appreciated.

Whoops, sorry, I had interpreted your post as to mean "when the 2012 991 comes out"

No, I just used the new model as a bargaining chip really. I appreciate your response either way. Thanks!

I am 100% certain you will be able to get a 2009 in your price range if you are willing to be flexible on mileage, options, and base model (S vs. non-S).
