I took my 09 997.2 PDK, haven't taken her out in 2 weeks. Started her up, Tubi exhaust humming and sounding great, went on a jaunt in Martin county, Fl, out west of the Turnpike-horse country, drove in Manual Sport mode through horse country, smoothe roads, minimal or no traffic, lo humidity, low 80's, IPHONE hooked up to stereo, blasting great tunes, gorgeous greenery, horse ranches, winding roads, nice straightaways, nice down shifts into turns..................only worry is florida highway Patrol runs radar by plane. Also, had a Trooper in a marked vehicle with no roof rack make a u turn and follow me from behind, at a distance, radar detector gave him away, never cracked 50, when, after 10, minutes, he u turned away out of frustration and I kicked her up to the 140 mph range past gorgeous 5 and 10 acre horse ranches............................Been 9 years since I moved to the sunshine state from NYC, but, in all honesty, I could not imagine owning a P car on the mean streets of Manhattan. not worth the hassle.
A gorgoeus day, spent quality time behind the wheel, car sounded great and all problems and stresses forgotten. Replaced my 30 year Harley obsession with the safer, 4 wheel mode and never looked back!!!!!!!!!!
Just wanted to relay, I know you guys on the west coast have the PCH, one of the great drives in southern florida, is to drive to key west. Have done it dozens of times on a Harley, planning on an excursion with the Mrs in the P car. Gorgeoud drive, one of the USA's 20 best year after year-highly recommended to those who havent driven from Miami to Key west....

Nice. This is why we have these cars.
I took a great drive myself yesterday... along the coast from Mission Beach up thru La Jolla, Torrey Pines, Del Mar and Carlsbad.
The drive to Key West is great too... very picturesque. I did it once, but I had to settle for MB SL500, instead of a Porsche.

Sounds like fun. Where exactly are these "great" roads in FL? I only moved to the US from the UK 4 years ago and certainly around Orlando, it's all boring straight roads. I'd love to find something with an actual bend in it.
Sad to report PCH from San Francisco to Half Moon Bay has turned into a slow speed bumper to bumper caravan. One tourist in an RV can clog up the traffic for miles behind it.
The "new" by-pass tunnel at Devil's Slide in Pacifica is still not completed after years of work.
Traffic south of Half Moon Bay frees up and you should start your drive at that point.

Sounds fun. But I I'm not a big fan of Rt 1 "oversees" between Ismarelda and BigPine keys. The extended period of water on both sides gets a little monotonous and is unerving. The margerita waiting for me in Keywest is a thing of beauty, though.
Most of my freinds with sports cars that live in the City, drive out of the city on weekends. The Saw Mill can be thrilling. Northern NJ and western CT have some of the best twisty and scenic roads in the North East. The trick is to hit them off-hours.

I've owned two FXLRs.. a '92 that I bought new, and I just sold a '93 with 2,000 miles on it. It was original down to the factory stickers. Best bike the MOCO ever made, in my HO. If they'd put 'em back on the market with a TC103 and 6 speed as the power plant, I'd be the first to order.
Sounds like you had a great ride..

great story
I'm very happy to say I try to make that my story almost every day. I could not imagine going two weeks without driving my baby. That would be torture. As for great roads in florida I have to say I'm with Dave, they are few and far between. I've done the miami to key west trip and it is cool but its a bit of a slow grind, and not exactly curvy.
I'm down in Naples, been here for a couple of weeks now and i'm itching to get back to Boston to drive my Porsche. I was at Autoquest just yesterday looking at a GT3RS and was talking to the salesman there "Terry" very nice guy, about how the roads down in Florida are perfect for the P-car though they may not be very curvy and hilly they are not riddled with potholes as they are in Boston. So if things go as planned i will have a Porsche in both my homes, that way i wont have withdrawals when the car in Boston is put away in it's winter den, and i will have something even better to drive while i'm here in Naples.

Kuddos to you, man. Enjoy yourself
