Strange PCM behavior CS2

If I have the AM radio on and I turn off the ignition, the next time I turn on the ignition the radio starts on FM with the volume very loud. I wonder why the system doesn't remember where it left off. Anyone else experienced this? Any solutions?

Thanks

Read your PCM book - I believe there are default settings for startup for each key - determines what the screen looks like, A/C settings, radio, etc.

I have read both manuals and can't find the feature you are describing. Do you recall where the instructions are located?

Thanks

On restart PCM 3.0 should return you to the last screen you were on. So, if your were in Map/NAV it will bring up the warning screen and make you hit the "confirm" button to proceed. Likewise, if you are in audio, it should bring you back to the audio type (ipod, usb, aux, radio..) you were last using. This is what it does for me but I don't listen to radio. So, I just quick tested this and for radio and it returned me to FM or AM depending on what was last playing when I removed the key and with the ONE volume level applying to both bands. I did not test the PCM going completely back to sleep and then seeing what it would show on new boot. Make sure you are on the newest s/w rev.. 1.4 for me.. as there have been a number of fixes since first release of PCM 3.0. Another thought...in my case I get both FM and AM within my garage. There may be a loop within PCM that tests the signal strength of the radio band on startup and give you a band with sound instead of static if the band strength is too low or lockable and thus prevent blasting you with static.

I found that there are default settings with each key but the tuner is not controlled this way. The signal strength is not the issue as I have a strong signal on both am and fm.
When I quick test the pcm, it does come back at the same place I left it, but under certain conditions it will come back on fm (volume loud) even though it was left on am (volume normal). I can't seem to figure out what causes this.

PCM has some randomness about it for sure. I don't listen to am/fm too much so I have not seen that issue, but I have noticed it starting out in FM if I leave in SAT, or sometimes the iPod doesn't come up, sometimes no Bluetooth - other odd bits - just lately no XM ID. Sometimes the volume on the MF Wheel lags and I get a huge jump in volume. My service guy says there is a new update coming for the XM issue. Looking forward to that update and maybe it will solve other minor issues. Mostly it all works pretty well - computers - just the way they are.

greenpdk-- I tried duplicating your issue by leaving the pcm on am for several days with enough time between starts to let the pcm completely sleep. Could not see the behavior you are experiencing. If you checked and you do have the latest s/w update then the only remedy I see is letting your dealer have your car for a couple of days to determine whether it they can duplicate your issue. Even then their only solution is likely to replace the pcm itself based on approval/recommendation of their regional tech rep. (assuming warranty exchange).

Could it be a power failure to the unit? Are your station presets still programmed?

No power failure. I guess I will give the dealer a shot. If they do decide to replace the PCM, I wonder if I could get the NAV added at the price it would have been from the factory? My car is a 2009 997.2
