If the wing still needs to be painted, the little bit of extra work to fill it is worth it.

Thanks for the advice Utkinpol,

But I don't plan to track the car, no do I drive over 100mph... its not like I'll be doing 140+ mph.

From what I understand the front will get lighter, but as long as I'm not pushing the car too much, it shouldn't be a problem.

Right?

Instead of spending big bucks again (this money pit never ends! )... what about just adding a front lip/splitter? Like these?

Would that help?

you may feel effect of added pressure in rear from 70mph or so. so i would still do GT3 front bumper if you want to do that wing. front lip does not really fix much.

Here's a true GT3 splitter... would this fit my 997.2 stock Carrera 3.6L?

Here's Brombacher's car... they have a wing on the back, and just a plain Carrera front bumper, but they've got a splitter only from what I can see....

You have me concerned now... adding a wing with no GT3 front bumper (which I had no plans for)... how bad will this screw up the car? Is the front end going to get so light that I risk swerving off the road at 100 mph?

Slight thread drift here but what about doing a GT3 front and leaving the back end stock? How would that effect handling?

No, that will only fit a 997.1 GT3 or aerokit front bumper.

Looks like the pictures show a Carrera with a nice wing on the back and standard front bumper... all that down force in the back doesn't seem to be upsetting the car too bad if it will zip up to 170mph and down with a regular front bumper???? (this was the supercharged Carrera from the Road Atlanta thread).

These cars are built to be at 7,200 RPM's for long stretches, to run along happily at 170 mph until you approach a downhill 90 degree turn, breaking only 100 feet out, hard onto the brakes down to 60 mph, squeeze onto the gas through and out of the turn...
This is why I'm confused? Big wing on the back doesn't seem to upset the balance of this car???

Its not so much the size of the wing as it the pitch of the wing. Tilt that wing up 10 or 15 degrees or put a Gurney flap on it then take picture at 170 mph...lets see what the front end looks like then...????

Hmmmm... so maybe I should have ordered a GT2 wing instead of a GT3?

Okay... pictures... Big wing vs little wing.

011 big wing, 102 stock wing accelerating hard out of the turn. Note the front end lift on 102...bigger wing or angle would even create more lift.

Here is hard acceleration in a straight line...needs more front end down force.

Here the braking has been done...going into the turn... as soon as I start to accelerate out of the turn the rear will skwat back down..I think a bigger wing would contribute to more understeer...???

Thanks for sharing the pictures Vid997...

So I guess my point of this was... you can safely run a big wing on the back, 011 seems to be doing just fine, but he's not doing 170mph either.

For me the wing is purely cosmetic... Highway 60 in North Georgia (#3 fun twisty according to motorcycle digest) is literally 10 minutes down the road from me. Its a nice 50 mile twisty loop I used to run this on my Ducati and my Z06... fastest we ever get going is perhaps 60-70, just fast enough to have some fun but not be wreckless.

Cruising 575S to I-75 S to Atlanta... there's a few straight places on 575 with wire dividers and no places for the cops to hide, I've been know to hit a 100mph there

For my style of driving, I don't expect I'll have any problems by not having a GT3 bumper. I'll let y'all know if I have any problems.

Back to: “Less is More”

Stick with the 3.8 wing and fill it in. Your app is completely cosmetic. Bigger wing, more drag, less top end/speed.

I do like the FVD chin spoiler though...that could finish things off nicely.

...So if someone knowledgeable asks about the car you'll say: "Oh, it's a 3.6, I lied"...No problem...
