do you guys have this problem with the garage opener
Hi Guys,
The built in garage opener antenna for the 997 is located in the front bumper. If I pull into my garage forward, I can open the garage no problem.
However, if I want to back in my car I can't open my garage door with the garage opener since the antenna is facing the opposite direction.
I found this is kind of stupid that porsche didn't thought of this.
On the other hand, my Honda built in garage opener got no problem whether I my car is facing backward or not.

i don't think the sensors are very strong. mine has some issues and would much prefer me to not back in. if i get the rear of the car very close to the door it opens with no problems. of course if i pull in front-ways it works fine all the way down to the curb. my wife's toyota can open the door from about a block away.
I have 2 doors with different brand/year receivers. Both doors work 100% of the time on our other cars (and from a longer range~ 100feet)...however on the Porsche (997.1), they don't seem to work as reliably (or with the same range.)
On the Porsche, door # 1 works ~ 90% of the time and seems to have a wider range (up to ~ 20 feet from the door). Door # 2 works intermittantly at best....and when it does work, it must be in the exact same spot (about 10 feet from the door).
ery @#$@#$ frustrating. I've resynched a few times, but it doesn't improve the performance. There is definitely something up with the Porsche design/location. Does anyone know where exactly the homelink transponder is located on the car?

I am having the exact same issue. I tried everything to no avail. I even looked at building a repeater or an amplifier, but there is a limit to the madness...
Winter is just around the corner and I will probably take the front bumper off for another project while the car in in the garage for a couple of months, if I go there, I will try to see if the emitter can be either replaced with a more efficient unit or relocated to the rear of the car... That seems to be the only possible solution.
Cheers,
T.

Just wondering like someone mentioned above, did you check the garage door motor itself ? I know mine has a wire antenna that comes out of it. Maybe you can extend that antenna.

I don't think that the range is too far on this system, and the surrounding environment can cause issues with the signal. IMO it is what it is, and if this is one of my cars weaknesses, oh well I can live with it.
you might be able to find an antenna extension, depending on your opener brand - http://www.residential-openers.com/lifchamcoaxc.html
Check the Opener itself
I had the same issue with one of my garage doors. The other door opened fine with the remotes on my cars, but one door was difficult to open, and required that the car be very close to it, particularly the Porsche. The antenna wire was well extended and free. When I removed the outside cover for the opener itself, I noticed that the antenna circuit board had what looked like a regulator screw (hex head). By fooling around and turning the screw one way and another, and trying the remote transmitter, I was able to increase the range substantially, to the point where it is now very acceptable. While I did not try my car facing away from the garage, I have to think that the increased sensitivity would help in that situation as well.
