Race...? Thoughts guys.993TT vs. 08' CarreraS Serious question...
If you do it at the local drag strip and you can tree this guy with a great launch then do it!!! This way there is no BS about if someone jumped before the arm drop, ect. I'd race him!!!
race re:
Wow... These were all such interesting replies. I can see where the school kid thing is. I was just really sick of hearing people talking the little smack and wanted to get the opinion from true 6speeders. So I guess I will take this guys money? Should do it at the track, Yes I agree. Long story short is that this guy keeps calling my car OLD. Yes it is a bit old. But I figure I will send him to "OLD School". Thanks for the input. No I didn't need the grand, But the charity idea sounded pretty good... Or I could buy the flag girls dinner with the losers money huh?
Dragstrip -- You'll win .
Track -- He'll win .
I have owned both cars . The 993 Turbo has its strength in stright line acceleration and on a roll . The AWD and extra weight of the 993tt car will hinder it going into tight corners . The 997S can not win in any straight line race. A modded PDK car would give a stock 993tt a heck of a run though .. but yours is modded.
Lastly -- my opinion is to leave betting on the race as well as street racing out of the mix . If both of you can afford thse cars a race ought to be done on a proper road (track or drag strip) and neither of you need to involve money . I don't see why either of you guys feel that there is anything really to prove . First off his car will be old one day too and yours is a legend .

That is the true friendly opinion
That is what I tried to lightly express to these fellows before. Thanks. I will leave it to the truth. I like to race, Not necessarily for the money. But to prove that there really aren't old Porsche cars... Just new owners. Good point about the 993 in all aspects. It is more GT tour car. Yet blistering fast in a straight line, and of course... A legend. Something that a mass produced 997 won't bring to the table in the future. With that in mind I think I will hold off on the racing unless it begins with a DE time trial event or strip event. After all, The last thing any of us need is a totaled out porsche or somebody getting hurt between any of either of these very fast cars.

I say race... either way, it will be a good story. Personally, I think the TT will win unless he is running a supercharger that you do not know about.
As far as track versus street. Of course keep things on the track if you can. That being said, I grew up in the middle of nowhere and sometimes abandoned airfields and paved farmer access roads are as good as any 1/4 mile strip. Not sure where exactly you are in TX but if memory serves, there are Navy and Air Force "out lying" fields littering that area of the country. In fact, I remember going to a similar field in the pan handle of Florida and catching a glimpse of some Porsche's having a go at it.
Whatever you do, stay clear of public roads.
