pricing on leftover 2010s

The local Porsche dealer has 15 new Porsche 911s on the lot and 5 of them are 2010 models. The one that has caught my eye is a Carrera S with a MSRP of $97,xxx. How much can I expect to get off MSRP? I'm not necessarily looking for the deal of the century but don't want to walk in there completely unprepared either.

Thanks,
Kumar

I would take no less than 10% off. Depending on where you live could get more. It is not 911 season up north so going in clean you hold all the cards...

In 2009 I saw left over 08's going for as much as 20% off of sticker. That was a different time and things have gotten better since then but I think you will be able to get quite a bit off.

I did see another local dealership advertising $12,000 off MSRP on leftover 2010s but they have nothing left in inventory really.

Don'tcha just love buying a new car? I'm 61 years old, and for as long as I've been buying new cars, and I've bought a bunch of 'em, I never quite know whether I should have asked for a kiss before I left the dealer after a new car purchase.. (since you always get a kiss after a good screwing..)

Average mark-up for a new 911 is 12% (got that from a friend who was once a sales manager at a regional Porsche dealer). That's before any factory incentives, hold back, etc that the consumer isn't supposed to be aware of.

Since the car is already a year old, you'd have to assume that there are incentives to get them off the dealer's lots. As such, the 15% discount may not be too far out of line. I'm sure you could get 12% off w/o too much haggling.

Good luck!..

Now is a great time to haggle. I was looking at a 2010 GT3 to replace my 05 3.6 coupe but decided the GT3 was too focussed for my daily driver, so now I am looking at a 2010 S as the 385hp is a considerable increase over my 325hp. My friend with a 06 S said that the 2010 S is very different from his car! That was a surprise.

The other option is to hold off until the 991 comes out, but the salesguy said that's a 2013 model. Not sure I can wait another 2 years.

991 hits next fall 2011. Only concern would be new model bugs. Nice power increase though for 991 S. Not sure if same engine as GTS's 407hp?

Very nice. The thing holding me back from this one is that i'm not a big silver guy. I'm assuming that is your new car in your AV?

Don't settle! I did that on my first one and took a bath to trade out. It is indeed...loving every minute of it!

I would start the process right at the beginning of December in order to 'walk out the door' a couple times right before month and year end. They have to sell a certain number of units in order to get larger allotments in future years (I heard this, not sure if it's true). Closing on the last day of the month does offer a discount in my experience. I would argue for around $80k as your starting price, then let him talk you into something around $85k.

I am not endorsing one dealer over another.

I know some guys at PP here in Dallas and you should be able to get to your target. However, as noted above, the last few weeks of December put's dealers game plan into another gear. You may want to get to the point with them now and hush and let them talk.

I lived in Houston and went to Porsche West a few times but they were kind of slow in dealing and just about everything else. I have a feeling they may have a new management team in now. Anyway, they are offering right at 12% off on all 10' models. They have several C4S' and I really did not look at the C2S inventory. Maybe some ammo for dealing here in Dallas or call Porsche West Houston and check on even more discount if a car fit's your wish list.

edit.

I just looked at their lot and it shows one white/black/6 speed C2S. 11,500 off. In fact they are showing a flat 11,500 off on 10 models no matter the sticker. So, 11,500 off on the higher priced C4S cars is not 12% off. Bottom line, they look like they are willing to deal.

Thanks for this. I really do like white. Based on the advice here, I might wait til December rolls around and see how desperate they get if that car is still around.

If you find out the options or lack of work...

I would call and get to the point of wanting 15% off any 10' they/any dealer have in stock. They would probably say no, too much. Let the year end start creeping up and watch the inventory online. Still there when the 18th or so of December comes...call back.

They may give you 15% off right now. The answer is always no if you don't ask.
