c2S manual stuck in first gear - help?

My 2006 C2S Cab 6speed (42K miles) was fine when it started this morning. I pulled out on to Pacific Coast Highway, switched from first to second gear and something snapped.

The gear shift now flops between first and second without any resistance.
The car is stuck in first gear.
No ther gears can be selected (the gear shift will move floppily between 1st and second but won;t go to neutral or any of the other gears).

The car has been towed to my Indy and I'm awaiting the verdict.

Does anyone have any insight as to what I'm looking at?

The tow truck driver (a Porsche fan himself) indicated that it could be 'just a cable'.

Is he correct? If so, what cable exactly and how big a deal to fix it?

Your input/comments are welcome.

Worried, but glad it happend on a surface street close to home, not in the middle of a road trip.

lenelsa: thanks for the feedback.

If so, its cheaper than a new pressure plate.

Yep, $160 for the part and $350 for the labor, but all is well again.
