I'm considering.....

I love my 996TT but.... I had quite a bit of work done to it and it is putting out an estimated 550 RWHP. Suspension was lowered and rebuilt and all that good stuff. All the work was done by Akram @ Motorwerks in Houston. The problem I am having with it is that is just frikkin scary! When the mod'd turbos kick in and the sound goes from droning to buzz saw, it kind of freaks me out. I like fast but this seems almost uncontrollable.

I test drove a new C2S the other day with a PDK and while it was not as fast the acceleration was so much smoother. It was quite pleasurable. Also my Merc SL63 seems more pleasurable. Again, not as fast but fast enough.

So I am not sure why I am posting this other than to maybe get opinions or for someone to share an experience of a similar situation, what they did, and how they liked the outcome. Maybe this should be a poll and we could measure how many responses I get saying, don't be a pu$$y, man up! as opposed to, Yea they are not for everyone....

So any feedback is appreciated.

I can only speak from my experience but I do wonder if at some point you'd miss the Hp in its absence. I have both cars.

The Turbo--
Part of having a high Hp car is that one doesn't have to drive it like a monster. For me .. it's just nice to know that my modded 997 Turbo has the Hp capability .
There may come a point where I take it to a drag strip or 1 mile event but I may not .
I don't know what type of modifications who chose but there are turbo upgrades which provide a very linear and seamless acceleration .

The 997.2S PDK --
The 997S PDK is a very well rounded car . It has all the street comfort , front clearance , handles well and has enough versatility to sit in "normal" mode in traffic or sport plus for those who like the track. It's also more understated .. which is think is better for the street use . It gives less worry because it is more common .

The Turbo is more like a sledgehammer and the 997S is more like an ice skater -- graceful --but not a beast.

The commonly heard complaints --

Some complain that the Turbo isn't graceful enough or that the throttle lacks the precision of the NA car.

Some complain that the 997S is a lot of car but it ISN"T :
1) as fast as a turbo
2) as nimble as a gt3
3) as unique as 1 or 2
It's somewhat like the jock of all sports .. but the master of none.

Conclusion -
It sounds like you have matured to the point where a lot of what your Turbo has no longer intersts in the same way it once did. The 997S will be a change and only you can pick and choose the things you find appealing to decide.

If i had to pick one .. I would sell the 997S so fast and keep the Turbo. I love that car !!!!

Good luck in your decision.

Thanks for the feedback. It is greatly appreciated. I am defiantly concerned about sellers remorse.

Maybe I should keep it and for variety, get a Cayman or Boxter for those days when I am feeling a little more tamed. Or a Panamera, I drove a Panamera turbo and while it was fast for a sedan, it felt very heavy compared to other Porsches I have driven.

Tough decision .

I realize that some guys here disagree with me on this because i am not a track driver but if I had to do it all over again part of me wishes i had kept the Turbo and bought a Gt3RS . In my opinion that's the best of both worlds .

I did think about it but then i also look at the practical aspects of driving any of these cars on the street where so many drivers are ridiculous OR at that the track which requires an effort, expense, wear and tear, liabilitites and time away from other things that i like --which i think takes some of the fun out of BOTH.

Cars like the Cayman and Panamera are great cars --but they are totally different than a 997 .

Maybe the 997.2S really is 'the one" because it does tie up all the charm of these cars at a modest price (in comparison).

I do like my 997.2S .
You really can't go wrong with any of thse cars.

I have found when you try to get "the best of both worlds" in ANYTHING you usually get "ok in both worlds". I had a Merc CLS-55AMG... beautiful car but it was too big to be a good sports car and too small to be a good family car.

Maybe I should keep the 996TT because I keep thinking one of these days I am going to want to hit the track. But I am running out of garage space!

I have driven both the turbo and I own a c2s

and from a speed comparison the c2s is a little lacking but I find it much more fun to drive than the turbo. The noise is good, the rear end likes to dance and it has a lighter feel.

Good luck with your choice

You just discovered the difference between linear, progressive, NA revving and sledgehammer turbos. I do prefer NA. And when coupled with PDK it's very, very good.

You also opened a pandora's box, because these sorts of discussions always bring heated discussions. I do appreciate both engines and find it good to have choices. But a choice it is, as the experiences are different.
