Wink Short shifter just installed. Wow~

Always something on the to-do list, and finally had this done. I went OEM as that seemed to be consensus opinion. What a difference. I drove for about 3 hours and it felt amazing. The shifts feel significantly shortened and still maintain the standard shifters feel when the grears engage. Completely changes the driving experience! The shifts we quicker and that translated to the car feeling more responsive as the rpm band wasn't as compromised due to the quicker shifts. I also admit that much of this is first-day euphoria, but if any are on the fence or have just been delaying it, GET ER DONE!

Also a shoutout to Ryan and the guys at Pepe Porsche in White Plains for making it a smooth install with a nice PCA discount.

alan000 is infamous around these parts
congrats on the new ssk. can I ask if you feel a difference going into 1st from neutral. both my wife and I have the short shifter and sometimes, esp. on cold days, it's harder to engage 1st. I have to go to second then 1st as suggested by others on this forum. just seeing if original shifter is like that.

thanks

Short shifter is a great up grade and yes, getting down into first is a bit more difficult when cold, pretty common but you will fiqure it out with time.

the original shifter is also a little stiffer on cold starts but nothing i haven't experienced in my previous cars (audi, VW). Perhaps the SSK makes things a tad stiffer, but honestly coming from someone that was on the fence due to some concerns about troubles shifting into 1st, the whole thing is overblown. really not that different from stock, just shorter throws. SSK should have been std equipment.

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the OEM from Porsche actually made by B&M?
I prefer dealer installs as well...assuming warranty will be covered if they do it.
It is on my to-do list for my 996

I think you want to be careful here as far as distinguishing parts. I read extensively about the different SSK kits and for the 997, the OEM SSK and the B&M kits are indeed different. I think on the 996's the B&M kit was the OEM manufacturer, but that changed for the 997. Suncoast has the part for around $500. Install should be around an hour and a half tops if not faster.

Thanks for the heads up. Again my knowledge is vague and when I posted a question previously I got a response:

...997SSK is made by B&M for Porsche...

Not sure it makes a tremendous difference but nice to know. Thanks for clarifying. Sorry for any confusion I may have caused.

its one of the best and easiest mod for a manual 997.

no experience with B&M kit but the oem ssk is outstanding.

just a straight drop-in to replace the old assembly.

i've always felt that this is how it should've come from factory.

got mine from Justin at Rennsport.. great customer service !

thanks for the answers... I do love my short shift kit, but I think it would even be better once it loosens up with time and mileage

I got the part ordered from a the downtown dealer - they actually have a used one that someone dropped in and did not like (that worries me) - looks in great condition to me. They want 3 hours to install the damn thing ??? Anyhow I am probably going to go for it since its too cold to work on anything out here.
