EBay Sales of Pcars
Just Curious : has anyone bought their Porsche via Ebay ? How well did the deal run ? What pitfalls to be aware of ? What was the age of the vehicle ?
Those who've sold via Ebay : any thoughts or concerns ? Do the auctions make sense ? Did the transfer get completed OK ? Would you do it again ?

Bought my 996 sight unseen with 1 yr of original warranty left. Had it shipped. Prior to payment, I had a friend looked at it to make sure it's in good cosmetic condition at least. With warranty remaining, I didn't do a PPI. Luckily, the car was as described.
Make sure you get title upon payment and verify the owner name matches the seller.
It takes about 1-2 weeks after the auction closes. Most ask for a $500 deposit within 3 days. The reality is, these things take a little time but if you have a dead beat or dreamer, you usually know very quickly so you can move on to the next highest bidder.
Research about seller before you buy. It's better to use a cashier check instead of wiring. Never wire to any one else than the seller.
When selling, always check the cashier check is real by going to the bank to withdraw it in cash. Never release the car or title without verified funds.

Purchased my 2005 997S Cabriolet via eBay. Negotiated w/ the seller via phone, arranged for an inspection and completed the deal. The seller/dealer set up the shipping at a better price than I could find. Everything went surprisingly well. It helped that eBay has $50K fraud insurance in the event the transaction goes bad. If I were looking again, I'd certainly consider going the eBay route again.
+1, I bought 2 Porsches, and 2 other cars on EBay over the years.

No, my first 997 was in Tampa at a Lexus Dealer, and my 2nd (current) came from Chicago (Chevy Dealer but owners personal car). I waited until the auctions expired, and then contacted them to negotiate.
Another successful ebay purchaser here.
Ebay is great for advertising cars, but I've never actually bid or did the "buy it now" on any car. Contact the dealer/seller, do your homework, PPI and if all checks out, make your offer. If time/travel permits I'll go physically see the car in person, but I've bought the last two simply based on pictures and speaking with the shop whilst inspecting them.
Ebay is just another venue like autotrader/cars.com, etc, IMO.

I saw the ad on ebay on Tuesday night before I went to bed, could not sleep, stayed up and research the car, called and gave them an offer in the morning and gave them a refundable deposit so they can't sell to anyone else. I needed a PPI and actually see the car before buying it. Post on here for opinions of the car Thursday since it's a 6speed car. Flew out Friday morning to check it out at the dealer. Love at first site, looks much sportier in real life. Test drove it. Told them I'll take it. Had it shipped from San Diego to Denver. The rest is history.

Thanks for the info. I got anxious just looking at the cars shown, thought I'm not in the market. Great Avatar by the way.
