Recommendations needed for a jack
My right rear tire is down and my old jack won't fit under the 911. It's a Pro-Lift. Any options for a good home jack that I can get at a local place?

You can pick up a good quality, inexpesive low-profile floor jack at nearly any major auto parts store. You can spend hundreds if you like.
Sears carries one that you can buy for sixty bucks.

I bought an aluminum jack at Costco a few years ago ($100) and it's served me well. I was all set to go to Sears until I read the reviews on their own website. Virtually every review was a horror story. This was three years ago - maybe they've switched suppliers since then. The Costco jack is low enough for my 997 and high enough for my Wrangler.
This is Sear's low-profile jack. The product manager should be embarrassed.

I overpaid and bought the low-profile jack from Griot's. Very pricey but between the GT and the Porsche, a quality, reliable and very low profile design was required. Others would have done, but none are lower than his. I use them (often as a pair) fairly often and appreciate the design.
And having bought two, when I had a definite leak with one, and a slight leak with the other, they just sent me two more and had the old ones picked up. No hassles.
Great company to deal with.

If I was rolling them and tossing them around all the time, like pro-pit folks seem to, I'd pay more to shave weight (I guess). The Griot's jack is quite heavy but has an interesting wheel design that makes it very maneuvering.
(Oh and don't forget to buy a few lengths of pipe insulation to wrap around the long lever. When you let go, it often snaps up and can ding the paint on a door or bumper if you don't cover it. A common oversight)
(Oh and don't forget a set of jack stands since the jack is for jacking and the stands are for standing. Never put an inflexible part of your body (that is larger than the un-lifted size of the car) under a part of your car that's held up by only a jack.

i got sport low profile jack from autozone, works fine so far.
You have to be so careful buying from Groit's. They will kick your wallet to death if you're not careful... So pricey!!!!
Case in point was the wire shelving that you can buy at COSTCO for $80. Groit's was selling the pieces ala cart at a total cost of $900. in one of their catalogs.
I know the low profile jacks are expensive and cost is at a premium but still others sell them for a lot less money...

Harbor Freight
+1 on Harbor Freight jack. I do a lot of my own work, including seasonal and track wheel/tire changes. I use my Harbor Freight jack at least a few times a month, and it has NEVER failed me, even after four years.
It's the way to go, and it fits perfectly under my '05 997 C2S.
