I'm not sure where to post this so please move this if this is not appropriate here.

I'm looking to purchase a SUV and found one that is very well priced with only around 10k miles. The description also says it hasn't been titled. It's a 2011 but I've never seen a car with 10k miles and never titled. Upon further commmunication with the dealer, they say it was a corporate fleet vehicle. Does anyone know what this really means? Is it a demo, etc etc.
I read something somewhere that leaves a negative feeling in my head, but I can't remember what the warning was. Thanks in advance.

 

either a demo or employee vehicle either way, would avoid. probably not maintained well wud actually run not walk away

 

Agreed. How is the condition of the interior?

I test drove a demo car with 3k miles once. It needed some replacement interior parts and a thorough detail. If you are getting a huge discount and dont mind it being a used car, it may save you a few grand. Check suspension, brake and tires since there is no warranty on those.

 

I was under the impression that Corp or Executive Cars were well maintained as their was no cost to the driver for having it done. I also thought the mileage limit for an executive car was 5,000 not 10,000 which would suggest it's a dealer demo or loaner car. Either way what service it would need would have been done by the dealer.

It also should come with a full warranty. If not then I would avoid it. If it does come with a factory warranty I'd think hard about the price and if you feel the deal is that good buy it and trade it in before the warranty expires if you have any issues with it .

 

It's a 2011 so why wouldn't it have warranty?

 

This car could very well be both a demo and an Exec car. They don't register these cars. They just stick a dealer's plate whenever it's driven, whether for demo or for employee. It should have a full warranty if you purchase it. If the price is right, which is way below MRSP, then it's worth a thorough look.

 

No generally they're not well maintained because there's no incentive to do it. The person or people driving it don't own it, and know it's going to be sold to somebody else anyway, so why take the time to maintain it? If it was a dealer vehicle, they're not going to waste their own money maintaining it when they know they're going to sell it before anything major is likely to go wrong with it. It may have been lucky to even have an oil change in its life.

 

Luckily a 5000 or even 10,000 mile P-car doesn't need much maintenance. My Carrera was untitled, had 9900 miles on it, and was technically a 'new' car, meaning I saved thousands on sales tax when I bought it. Almost 30,000 miles on her now and trouble free, very solid. My impression is it was well-maintained. Save for some rock chips, it's basically flawless.

Before that I bought a 2004 Cayenne S that was a demo car, that had about 5000 miles on it. That sucker was trouble-free, robust up till 58000 miles when I traded it in. Indeed I still miss that car in bad weather.

 

My girlfriend has a BMW 3 series that was a dealer demo.....beautiful innside and out and no real problems with the car.
