Does anyone know how to replace the handbrake?

Trying to upgrade the handbrake on my '07 C2. Does anyone have any experience doing this?

Yes. Best bet is to look for the Center Console replacement guide on the Macarbon website and follow that to the letter.

Once the center console is off, you'll find four bolts holding the lever down - very tight quarters in there so you need a socket wrench and will have to reposition the seat while getting to all the bolts.

There's also the cables attached to the e-brake that need to come off and there's a hole in the brake where you can put something like a long nail to hold off tension on those cables - a new e-brake should come with something already in that hole that you will remove once installed. I'll look for the write up I did for it.

OK: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...e-upgrade.html

or: http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...ighlight=brake

Watch out with that airbag connector if you have electric seats - I had to take mine to the dealer afterwards to get the warning light turned off because I turned the key on with the CC out and connector disconnected.

signature65 is infamous around these parts
are you replacing the grip or the whole mechanism

the grip slides right off the assembly. Just give it a good pull towards the dash and it will pop the button off and slide off.....doesnt break a thing

Signature65, I've read somewhere that the grip is glued on...can you confirm this?

Sliding it off would definitely save a lot of time.

The grip slides off. So it depends on what you are replacing it with...

I'm replacing it with the same grip....the one on there now is beat up and I got a good deal on a new one.

Is it glued? I tried pulling it off...it seems to be stuck on there pretty good.

I do not want to hijack the thread, but any of you could "teach me" how to find out the replacement part (and -if possible- the price) for the "bare" grip it would be great.
If it makes more sense that I open another thread, just let me know.
Thanks again.

I only found out the whole mechanism and it looks crazy expensive.

My grip was all scratched up. I went looknig for a new grip on ebay and the such....found many in the $100-200 range. In the end I took my grip off, sanded it with 600 gritt sandpaper and redyed it black. Its not perfect but it has no scratches, looks 100 times better, and cost me nothing.

I figured if i screwed it up I could spend the $200 for a new grip. Instead I had a nice little project which was fun.
