997.1 LED Retrofit ---- Potential issue?
the problem can be solved by either purchase a porsche approved red colored bulb for the fog light function or for all my customer i wouldn't mind give them a setup spec if they would like to put a led type bulb in where the fog light socket is right now
I'm just sharing this story with others like me who are getting the 997.1 LED retrofit bug
I haven't done anything yet but a friend of mine installed a new set in his a couple weeks ago (the looked really nice btw). 2007 C2S, no problems install was super easy and no error codes
In the old/original tail light, the fog light bulb sits in an area w/a red lens, and at least with daytime running lights, is on all the time on low and blends into the tail light no problem.
In the new LED retrofit, it sits in a clear lens (and uses the old bulb,...see pic), and since it's on all the time, give the impression of the person reversing (even thought the LED reverse is 100 times brighter)
Well, anyways, this is where it got interesting........he got pulled over by the police since they thought he had a defective tail lights that had the reverse lights on. After explaining to the police what it was and showing him the real reverse lights the cop let him go but told him he'd probably get pulled over again, and gave him a speech about aftermarket parts
After the incident, my friend pulled out the fog bulb and ended getting a error, got frustrated and so now he's put his stock tail lights back in.......
Not sure if there's a fix for this (different color bulb, red film etc...), anyone else experience this or any suggestions. It's made me hesitate putting a set in.

I would think it's as annoying knowing as seeing the guy (or girl) in front of you go into reverse at a red light

the rear fog on the oem tail lights just acted like part of the tail running light when is not specifically pulled out. however is on all day, but is a double filament bulb that has two stage of power. the reason why we did not use led for that function is
1. is hard to set up a 2 stage led, plus 2 stage led's life time are usually shorter as it accept couple different current to go thru
2. safety reason. rear fog light are designed for safety reason, not the look. when there's bad weather out there, you would want to make sure your rear fog lights are on, a simple in-condenscent bulb setup will be easy to swap when they went out as to swap led bulb would be really difficult.
i designed a wiring diagram to bypass the fog light lamp when user does not need that, however when they need to use it, simple put the bulb back in, remove the setup, then you are good to go with the rear fog lights on
also putting in a red colored porsche approved bulb will totally cure the problem, as is just a bulb, a regular bulb.
dude.. first of all.thank you for your purchase.
and thank you so much for posting this out!!
i totally see your point, as my friend who has a turbo felt the same way. in his case, we skipped didn't install the fog light bulb, and it did not trigger any error code at all. however the 997tt 's setup requires resistor for the signal, so i guess that resistor done the magic for the turbo version.
let me know if you can find a bulb or not, i'm working on my bypass solution for the fog now, will let u know soon!!
Yooo.. i got you over here...
you are wrong..but not totally.. you need to call taiwan for this..
oppss.. did i just leaked something..
taiwan made parts has no comparsion with the china made ones.
ask w00zie hows the quality of the tail lights, i'm sure there's no any other aftermarket tail lights can be as good looking as this.
Steve,
c'mon.......who made them????? 1st clue.....call China!

GUYS!!!!
your fog lights go on when your running lights are on!!! you just dont know it as is part of the tail lights
for the new led tail lights's fog light function, here is the setup and hope that explain something to you guys. the fog light bulb are still on its original factory harness. all you need to do to install the fog light function is twist it off the oem tail lights, and then twist it in the new led tail lights. you are DONE!!
see, the new tail lights actually did not change any function or the way it should be acting like, its all same as factory.
Here's a pic @ lower light, i tried on in my car to see if i got the same result
When i pulled all the bulbs out, these ones (one on each side) is on the minute i turned on my regular headlights (no fog on), only the driver's side one goes brighter w/fogs on
I might have used the wrong term earlier to call these 'fog lights', this was just based on the diagram labels that were provided, and the bulb at least is the fog on the drivers rear side
On a completely separate note it was really easy to swap them out
just had to make sure i labeled all my bulbs first. And no error codes on my 2006 C4S.
