997S - want 18's for track
Hello All,
A friend of mine has a 2008 997S with the stock 19" lobster claws. We will be hitting a DE and they want to try 18's. I have an extra set of 18's from my 996 Turbo I can lend to them, but I think the offsets are too significantly different.
What have you all used for 18's? Will mine work?
They currently have:
front: 19x8 57
rear: 19x11 67
Mine are:
front: 18x8 50
rear: 18x11 45
Thank you!
Ashley

Yours wont work because you have wide body offsets. IMO if I were going for a set of track only wheels in 18, I would be giving the guys at CCW a call. Can't beat their price for a quality forged wheel.
what he said.

ideally ne needs wheels in NB gt3 offsets -
18x9 +50mm (7" backspace), 18x12 +69mm (9.25" backspace).
or he can go to tirerack and choose OZ allegeritas after specifing 997 gt3 as a car - that will give him 8.5" fronts and 12" rear option in 18".
OZs are cheapest ones to buy but I would recommend CCW as well as others.
Thanks for all the input! We will do some digging into these options.
Are there any OEM porsche wheels that will fit these specs? Would prefer to find some used ones out there since this will be just track use (don't have to be too pretty!).
Thanks!

he can use yours with spacers for rears.

Wait a minute guys. You can't add offset by putting spacers on. Since offsets are negative numbers (the center of the wheel is inside the mounting face, not outside), adding spacers reduces the offset. i.e putting 7 mm spacers behind a 50mm offset wheel will result in an offset of 43mm, not 57mm.

OK, my terminology may be incorrect, but the issue remains the same. Since the offset is apparently assumed to be positive, the addition of a spacer will still reduce that offset. Visualize the spacer in your diagram, which will push the wheel to the right, and thus move the center line to the right, thus reducing the distance to the hub face. So a 50mm offset will decrease to 43mm if a 7mm spacer is added.

all I know - it is not a very good idea to run with rims on spacers on a track, it got to be a proper fitting wheel sitting on a hub directly.

The new Carrera IVs are a good option....but whts wrong with 19" track wheels?
If you put wide body rears on a narrow body car they stick out beyond the fender (or much closer to the fender edge than the 67mm offset).
Lower offset number = wider stance (on the same car).
Spacers give a wider stance: spacers lower offset numbers.
It is confusing. The Fikse drawing does not help...
The proposed 18x11 with 45mm offset from the original question will stick outside the fender edge by over 15mm
