Trailer Rental Do-Able for a 997?
Here are some pics of when I towed my brothers broken down 85.5 944.
Parked the trailer down hill to minimize the angle. The hill doesn't look steep but it is. Once on the trailer had to use wood beneath the front wheels so I would not knock off the front valance.
The 997 is much lower and more expensive than a 944 so I would drive the 997 home and have fun.

Look lets grab your tacoma and I'll drive out with you. I am currently unemployed and I always drive my cars back when I buy them. I drove to SC last year to pick up my 911 and drove it back 900 miles or whatever it was. Pm me I'm always down for a ride and the drive back in your new car is simply amazing because you finally got it in your hands
I really don't want to in any way step on Blockhed's really generous offer (what this Forum is all about).
But, you're looking at ~$300 in fuel costs, plus a couple of hundred bucks @ 15¢ / mi in depreciation/maintenance for the vehicles, maybe $100 for a hotel, another hundred in meals etc....
That's $700 already.
$165 for peace of mind looks pretty cheap.
Then there's your time.
All I'm saying is that perhaps the transport isn't that expensive.
Again, good luck.

500 miles there is no need for hotels. I spent under 250 for gas in both cars and I picked it up in sc. If you're worried about driving the car and depriciation well why buy the car. If the deal is set ill pick you up in my civic it gets 40mpg ill be 100 in gas lol. Do what's best for you.
500 miles is like driving from Boston to NYC - I can hardly see any problem with doiyng it in any kind of weather, would never pay close to $900 for that.
I thought that they were a lot closer then that, I was under the impression that it was only about 200 miles.
I PM'd the OP but give Applewood Motorcars a call for transport. Definitely the most reasonable prices I've found and great guys to work with.
As a point of reference, they delivered my 997S from Boca Raton, FL to NJ (approx 1200 miles) for less than the above mentioned quotes.

I hope this doesn't repeat a previous post in this thread. I read through some of it, and wanted to comment while I had the chance.
** I tried to rent a U-haul trailer for my 997 to move it about 200 miles. The reason is that I wanted a particular installer to wrap the car and didn't want to take the chance on getting a chip on the drive.
Long story short, I found that U-haul DOESN'T rent a trailer that will fit a 997. Although their website says that it will, the tie down points for the front tires and the way the front of the trailers angle up (kinda like a sleigh) doesn't allow enough clearance or room to anchor the front tires.
I called U-haul's national service line, and visited a couple different U-haul locations. I confirmed that there wasn't a trailer that would fit a 997.
Good luck on moving the car.
What I eventually did, was wrap the car in plastic (from U-haul) and blue tape. It worked fine for 200 miles.

Have you considered the weather while towing? A snow covered road with a smallish truck and about four thousand -plus pounds behind is not going to go well, if the local highway law enforcement will even allow you to attempt it.
just drive it. it's 500 miles not 5,000. no need for hotels, no great planning. I'd do 500 miles without even giving it a thought. check the weather and as long as it isn't snowing WHILE your driving your fine. We got 20" inches of snow last night and the main roads are perfect.
I guarantee it will be the best day of your life.

The snow, the up and back travel (he has to go to pick it up making double distance) . the time . the loss of work or at home leisure time to do what should be a fun task yet sounds more like work ....
Maybe this is doable for most (not me though ) .

It ain't all that difficult to tow a car... If you don't trust yourself to do it then just ask a friend to help.... I'm sure one of your pals would love to go with you to pick up a car..
