Advice - 2011 Carrera S
With inventory this narrow .. pricing gets at or near MSRP.
A 2009 car will ask a high price (ie 85K for a CPO) but they are in dreamland if the believe they will come anywhere close to it. I was offered 72 and 75K by two different dealerships almost 5 months ago when I almost traded my car for a Gt3RS . That's what wholesale was THEN ... I feel its retail NOW.

Good to know, thanks. I'm gonna keep it in mind.
I'm still leaning towards a 2011 997S (depending on the price, of course).
*Edit
So what would a 2009 or 2010 cost, with low mileage? (PDK + Sport Chrono). Cab or coupe

2010 -- My opinion .. whoever owns it can keep it . If it's a dealership they are stuck with it . they would have to go 25 percent off MSRP and they are not going to do it .
If it's an owner .. he will ask too much for a used car to sway you from buying a new car.
2009 -- 72K -75K depending on options . For instance mine has full leather, PDK, and a $7K exhaust on it . Had it been a manual with standard leather .. the car would be worth less . Keep in mind that supply in 2009 was plentiful and also note that launch cars are worth LESS (IMO) .
cabs .. add 5-7K .

Got it. Hypothetically, with a 9% discount...is the car a good buy? More in terms of the actual car itself vs. comparing with pre-owned or GTS/GT3 versions. Would I have the car and be like "this car is awesome, I want to keep it forever" lol. And if I were to try and trade in 2-3 years down the road....would I be taking much of a hit?
BTW...I appreciate your taking the time and indulging me with all this.

Rounding numbers --
Let's say you buy a modestly equipped 100K car for 91K (in a standard non trendy color) and keep it two years and drive it 20K miles.
Sell it privately in two years with a model redesign -- 72K
Trade it in - 65K
If it had more options .. costs more to get in and sells slightly higher at exit. There are exceptions too .. if the new model is a spectacular success or not -- those estimates will deviate slightly .

I have never felt this way about my 997s or the two other 997s cars I owned.
I might feel this way about a Gt3 .. but i never owned one.
I have owned 9 of thse cars and have always fared pretty well on trade in even when the new model is a success .
Was just thinking (and maybe this is just me trying to justify getting an '11)
Let's say the '12s are out in a year, and the high performance versions the following year...if I were to get the '11, that would put me in a good position 2 years down the road for an upgrade. Vs. waiting a year and getting the '12 only for the high performance cars coming a year or so later and having to wait for another year to pass. Does that make any sense? lol.

You may want to check to see when is the latest it can be ordered. Usually on an exclusive car like the GTS dealershipas get only a certain number alloted to them . I looked at three Florida dealership online inventories and only found one car -- a cab . None in Orlando .

So this may be stating the obvious. But I can't really go wrong with a Porsche? I was thinking of other cars to compare the 997S too, but couldn't really think of any. None that I would be interested in at least.
In another thread I said that I ordered a '10 S PDK with full leather, manual sports seats and no-Bose. I would order the same exact car today.
If you lust for the X51 get the GTS but I prefer the narrow body and do not like the black sides and rear apron as it raises the car. I do not like the STD alcantara bits either and I do not want the louder exhaust. For me the S is the 911 sweet spot.

For starters I fell in love with a Gt3Rs speced exactly the way i would have on a dealership lot that was already sold. I offered to buy it if he changed his mind as they waited for him to pick it up after his trip. He bought the car.
I had a lot of time to think .
1) I already have and love my Turbo
2) I don't even drive my cars all the time
3) The roads in my area have constuction
4) I am not a track driver
5) The average drivers who share the roads and parking lack a lot of courtesy and skill .
6) I would have taken a loss on the PDK car to buy the car.
7) the PDK car seemed more practical and less worry
8) I already bought the PDK car .. somewhat missed the boat I feel compared to a Gt3RS.
The more i thought .. the less it made sense given my needs and circumstances.
The car itself is purely amazing . That's about the only thing I didn't doubt .
