If you had to do it all over ...... ??????
Too many reasons NOT to get it given that i have two . Keep in mind this thread is a "do over" rather than a loss to go forward.

Stick with my carrera but maybe find one where a guy optioned it out instead of getting one off of a lease... Positive thing is that I got a cpo with only 12,000 miles on it... 88k of warranty left...
In my case I already had the Turbo and the 997S was the second car . I can see why some are picking the Turbo and others are picking the Gt3 .
It's such a hard choice presented as an either/or /only one car /do over --type of question . Especially with today's current PDK Turbo S and Gt3 . Both =greatness !!!
At least some of you are able to pick one. I don't think I could. If i did I think the doubt about not having chosen the other (might end up with me not buying any ).
if I had to sell one .. it would NOT be the Turbo . So it's not an isue of the Turbo or the 997S or GTS. The original question was whether it's the 997s or Gt3 .
That choice would be easy for me if it were a do over.
it's the Gt3 !!!!

there is nothing wrong whatsoever to keep a turbo and a gt3 car. even if you don`t need one. 997.2 gt3 is a great machine, pretty good engine, can be tuned to give out same power as gt3 rs - so it you keep thinking about it, i would just buy it.
as of original question - i would do it all the same way most likely, found a cheapest base car and started building it up as it is fun thing for me to do and costs less. plus i need rear seats, still.
if I could sacrifice rear seats and had a trailer for hauling it around then I would get gt3 rs of course.

Duh, don`t kid yourself.

The move was from no car to a Gt3 doesn't account for the loss on the 997.2S (approx negative 30K from MSRP -- as opposed to ZERO with a do over). . It might even make sense if i drove the cars more often, if the average drivers sharing the roads and parking were more courteous , if there was less construction , if the discounts in 09 wren't as good as they were , and if the loss made to make a switch was compensated with less worry to have the nicer car. I have no doubt that I prefer the Gt3 though.
The factors to switch present a different set of circumstances than if one got a "do over" . In fact several on the thread also did in fact pick a different car too. I can only speculate but it sounds like they also won't make the switch but might do it over differently .
To me .. this may be most beneficial when I buy my next car because what might seem like the best car choice at one given moment might be .. (like how i feel with the Turbo or those who chose the identical car) or it may not (like if years later if one prefers a do over) .

As much a beast the GT3 is, the styling is too aggressive for me. One of the (if not THE) biggest draws for me to get into a 911 is it's purity of shape and no other car exemplifies that more than the base and S models. I know people here would think that I am crazy but a few here may agree with me.
"the 911 has lost its specialness"
An interesting article in the February 2011 issue of Excellence magazine regarding the many variants of the 911. The "limited edition" Porsches have emasculated the production 911's and made them "less special" and "ordinary" according to Chris Harris.
If it doesn't have a variant placard then it's "just a 911"

I'll keep my C4S, don't track (4X max a year) enough to justify the need for a GT3. I'm happy with the GT3RS look. Although it's small, I need and want the rear seats. I have two small boys and it comes in handy when I need to use them.
Yes, everyone I know pities me for having to drive "just a 911".

Chris Harris is outta touch with reality to an extent.

You will get all different answers to this for many reasons even if cost does not matter. Although no one can deny that it performs better than the S, some need the back seats, some don’t like the looks, some won’t like the ride or can’t deal with the lower ride height in their given daily driver environment.
For me (I couldn’t have afforded one so it doesn’t really matter) I would have chosen the GT3. I don’t have a need for the seats so just having the space in the back would have been fine. I am young and although I know the looks would have made it stick out I would have been ok with that.
Now if you compare it to the Turbo it would be a hard choice as I doubt I would track the GT3 and the grand touring esque of the Turbo would be very nice for road trips or even small trips. Let alone the AWD for winter driving that I often do (LIKE TODAY!).
Great question all in all and if people can stick to the actual GT3 over and S…
Final answer GT3 over S for me at this point in life.

I'd get the same - Targa 4S with a six-speed manual.
But I'm asking my car to be a daily driver, a GT, and a weekend play thing all in one. The Targa is really well suited to all of these needs in a way that the GT3 isn't and wasn't designed to be.
If Porsche ever sees fit to make a Turbo Targa, I'd be all over it.

I ordered a '10 S with PDK, manual sports seats, no-Bose and full leather and I would order the same today. Not a GTS, but this exact same S.
When I picked up my '09' S, 12000 miles, black/black I was torn between it and a perfect '07' GT3, 24000 miles, white/black, PCCBs with ZERO hits in any rev range on the DME! The GT3 was $7500 over the S. Since I wanted the wife to join me on a few trips, both retired, I picked the '09' S with 5 years of CPO. I'd pick the S again but I'd look for a PDK.
