Would you have bought the same 997s OR a Gt3 ?
Forget price .
Forget that you already bought the car .
Go back in time .
My vote --- GT3 !!!!!!

Had I but known what technical beauty lay beneath that over-made-up skin.[sigh]
Honestly, I'd have to check the spec sheet to decide if I would choose it over our S if price were no consideration. You see, our S is a daily driver and the PASM was a deal-breaker. Well, a deal-maker in this case. We had tried a couple of non-PASM 997's and were ready to leave and go down to Mercedes because our aged bones could not tolerate the suspension, either the sport variety or conventional touring set-up. PASM is more comfortable than the touring version and better handling in sport mode. Otherwise, we'd be in a Mercedes or an Audi today...

If I had to do it again : I would have custom ordered a 997 C4S without all the frills (Bose, PCM, adaptive sport seats, dynamic cornering lights). Would have saved some weight and more importantly the $$$. I could have used to $$ to buy a Jetta TDI to use for runs to grocery stores, cinemas, icy road scenarios. As much a beast the GT3 is, the styling is too aggressive for me. One of the (if not THE) biggest draws for me to get into a 911 is it's purity of shape and no other car exemplifies that more than the base and S models. I know people here would think that I am crazy but a few here may agree with me.

Now if anyone asked would I take an off-the-shelf GTS in lieu of ours...
... why I'd reply they had no GTS when we bought our car but in any case we certainly are faithful to her completely [whisper]even if I'm not sure sound carries through our garage access door in the laundry room.[/whisper]

Some of you guys are mentioning the GTS . I agree with adias on that point. I prefer the 997S over the GtS for the same points he mentioned in another thread.
My original post was about the GT3 .
I do ike my 997s . I feel its very well rounded in terms of a great car and value .
I just feel it misses the highest tier of greatness amongst the offerings of this 997 line (and that's why I bought a Porsche in the first place) .
So it's great but it's not greatNESS.

Having never driven a GT3 I can't honestly answer that question. When I bought my car new I considered a used GT3 but was dissuaded by the talks of harsh ride and I don't like all the alcantara bits. If I had the money, I'd consider a 997.2 GT3 but I'm happy with my GT3 look alike 997S
Gt3???
my 09 997 has been quite noticable to local police, a fixed wing GT3 is even more noticable and too tempting for someone like myself to push the limits. These cars standout on the highways and you are MUCH more likely to be noticed than the guy with the Honda accord tooling along at triple digits..............
