TPC complains..... + Warning light
TPC complains..... + Warning light
Folks,
After getting my new 2006, the Tire Pressure monitoring system complains and triggers the Warning Light (Red Exclamation mark).
I checked the configuration of the TPC and all seems ok: summer tires, Full Load on my 4S. I also checked the tires pressure and I have 36 in the front and 44 PSI on the rear.
I am thinking that the batteries located in the pressure sensors, inside each wheel are dead, as they need to be replaced every 4 years. That may explain why the TPC stays in learning mode and cannot come to display the tires pressures.
Have you guys experienced the same thing? Could it be for another reason? Why type of batteries goes into these sensors, so that I have them handy when I replaced my tires?
Again, thanks for the quick and very clear responses I have gotten so far.

Just to be clear the system is called TPMS and not TPC. I know you can get new sensors and I think that may be what you need to do. If I had to guess I would say you cannot replace just the battery. I will let someone who knows more about it than me say for sure though.
Somehow would be surprised if the batteries are dead. Not to mention, the batteries wouldn't be dead in all of them. Are the wheels stock? Tires recently replaced? I assume that is "new to you" 2006 car. Is it CPO? Was the warning light on when you bought it?
Also might suggest you check the pressure and use the recommendations from the manual. I think those pressures are from the door jam, which is quite a bit too high. (at least they would be on my C2S).

The TPMS system is a PITA and notoriously inaccurate. Set it on "light load" and then set the tires for a couple pounds over the recommended pressures.....probably 35f - 40r. That should clear the faults after driving a few miles. Then buy a good gauge (Longacre or the like) and monitor them yourself. You don't have a battery problem in all likelihood. Best,
My 2006 (bought a year ago) goes wacky on the way to work as well in the a.m. There are no issues driving home or when driving around town during the weekend. Like you mentioned, they probably need to be replaced.
I have this same issue in my 06 C4S since I purchased a year ago. People also mentioned I could just swap batteries, but Porsche only sells self contained unit for ~$160 per if I remember correctly. Would love to get it resolved as well.

Call it whatever you want...but Porsche refers to the system as TPC - check the owner's manual. Betteries are not replaceable.
Yeah, I thought you bought the turbo system from TPC and were having issues.

What is the downside of just letting the darn things go dead?
