Intake / exhaust - My thoughts !!!
Intake / exhaust - My thoughts !!!
Installed the fabspeed dual CF Y pipe.
Relatively easy install, however you must make sure the Y section and filters are seated as low as possibe, otherwise it will rub / vibrate on the overlying fan when the boot lid is closed. Be sure to ease, and create maximum length on the red silicon hose, so it can sit lower in the engine bay.
Nice induction noise below 4000 rpm, however about 5000 rpm's, it really becomes obvious. It sounds "evil" at high revs. It screams!!!!!! AND unfortunately I am not sure if I like it at high revs... because it really invades the cabin and the noise is very obtrusive.
Build quality is superb, brilliant, can't speak highly enough of fabspeed.
Now, X pipe.
Difficult installation with the removal of one of the 13 mm nuts on the triangular connection of the primary muffler to header flange.
took some 4 hrs for complete installation.
Sounds fantastic, sounds mean, very impressed.
Well worth the mod.
excellent build quality.

noise will take some getting used to at high RPM's, modest performance improvement
I'm sorry and maybe it's just me and/or my age but I don't get the more noise thing...it's already noisy enough stock.
I've always found subtle is better for everything....a beautiful suit, a stunning pair of Santoni shoes, a gorgeous silk tie, a ring, a watch or whatever. That doesn't mean I don't like gold watches but i wouldn't put diamonds on it. Even the turquiose blue color of my car is bright but it's unmodified...it is what it is. When you have something classic it already says good things about you and your taste. You don't need to put a wing on it or make it noisier. Even if nobody knows I did it...I know.
I had a fabspeed exhaust on my 2001 996 and it just sounded wrong....I don't know
. I just know I decided I wouldn't ever do that again.I do know I'm definitely in the minority here but the car is already a statement and again...I'm old
but luvin my Porsche!!Best,
Tom

I believe it also depends on how often you drive the car and what it's used for. If you're a curves/backroads kind of driver who prefers to have fun but lay low and somewhat out of sight, then I'd keep her as stock as possible. If you're all about the sound of your car and the obvious attention it can bring similar to a Ferrari or Lambo, then go all out (within reason of course).
I noticed the prior two posts with one 997.2 owner (still can't get over that pretty color), and the other, a 997.1. Coming from having both, the two cars sound completely different, and completely different volumes throughout the RPM range. In my opinion, the 997.1 sounds better out of the box. I had the PSE on my 997.1, and it was perfect all around, and I kept the PSE on whenever it was running. Just before I sold the car, I had installed the Fabspeed intake kit for the 997.1, and it did make a big difference, especially at around 4K. (again, that was with PSE) My first 997.1 (non PSE) was stock for about 2 weeks, and then then Tubi mufflers were installed. Not throaty enough for my taste on the 997.1 I had, but I think headers and cats would have made the difference.
Now, for the 997.2, there's a different challenge. These cars were designed to be a quiter car, however the engines themselves are noisier than the 997.1's. To me, I agree with having a little more volume on a daily driver 997.2. Anything more, and yes, it could get annoying, especially to your neighbors.
To me, there's a careful balance between too quiet and dragster pop with some of the sound options out there. It sounds like the Fabspeed setup is perfect for your use, and the intake looks fantastic! Nice job! I've yet to install my Cargraphics full exhaust setup, so I'll be sure to post my feedback once I wake up the neighbors around 3am.
To each his/her own. When the day's done, we'll all be drooling over the others' cars at the local meets no matter what because it's a PORSCHE!

Thank you for the kind words on the color....I find it irresistible still and it's almost a year old!
I too notice that this car is quieter than my 2006 but still more than loud enough for me. I know that sound preference is all in the ear of the beholder so "Vive la differance"

Tom, let me know if you're ever coming towards the Carolina's. Would love to see your car and color in person!
...but surprisingly throaty at cold start and at 4,500 rpm's stock! It kind of shocked me actually the first time I drove it. I also completely disregarded the fact that you have a cab. The rules change given that factor! I had a '94 Speedster with the B&B exhaust, and that was the ONLY reason I sold the car. I got so sick of listening to it. Tylenol can get really expensive!
