Road & Track Magazine - New 911
Road & Track Magazine - New 911
.. came in the mail today.. Front cover shot of the artist's conception of the new car. Looks a lot like what we've seen in here. Haven't read the story - yet.
I saw the article the other day. The car looks more expensive, especially with the interior mimicking the Panamera. I don't feel compelled to want one. At least not yet.
I find the rear deck really busy/ fussy. IMHO 911's have always have one of nicest rear-ends on the auto world, but this rear scheme looks really choppy, not smooth & graceful, flowing like the best of the 911's.

I don't care for the Panamera interior. 911 is now competing with Merc SL and BMW 6 series. If this will make the car more appealing to the masses and generate more sales, why wouldn't they make it more lux. Most P owners could care less about tracking their cars. Comfort with a dash of sportiness is probably the new recipe. Porsche really wants to push increasing sales-- who doesn't after all. This is why they developed a sub-boxster/cayman and sub-cayenne. Even Ferrari wants to expand its customer base with their new station wagon.
But all is not lost as Le Mans requires homologation which at least means there will be some true sporting variants to keep Weissach occupied.
it's hard to improve on the 997, but i can see why they'd want to change things a bit to make it look more modern. I mean, the 997 is a beautiful timeless design, and that's part of the reason why I like it so much. But since it's an evolutionary design, I would never say that the 997 looks that modern.
