front spoiler at high speed
front spoiler at high speed
now that i see that GTS has the GT3 front bumper without the large wing supposedly required in the back (to match the downforce
), i am considering to replace my front bumper with the OEM GT3 front..
but at times, i feel like my current front bumper has a nice look to it.. and just needs a lip or a lower spoiler to enhance it.
to further complicate the matter, i started questioning the aerodynamics of the aftermarket spoilers.. i.e. how safe is it to drive at high speed (+150mph) with these aftermarket lips?? (and yes, i know driving that fast is not safe to begin with..)
i've read that TechArt does wind tunnel testing.. but i can't really see too many manufacturers doing the same..
these are the six i am considering. i am hoping members who have these will chime in with their thoughts. the ones i am leaning towards is bolded
1- oem GT3 bumper- pricey, but proven.. looks great.. many have them, which is good and bad.
2- Misha GT3 replica bumper - cheaper than oem.. would think it behaves identical to oem at high speed..
3- Techart spoiler - pricey for a lip only.. wind tunnel tested ??
4- GT3TEk spoiler (pic from AWCAYENNE) - cheaper than and similar to TechArt.. tested by anyone?
5- RotTec spoiler - Carbon so no prep or paint needed.. tested at high speed?
6- Hamann spoiler - Pricey and unsure of the look..

I have the OEM GT3, and have had the original version (Cargraphic) of the Rottec spoiler, which is a replica of the Cargraphic which I believe was wind tested. I prefer that lip the most due to clearance and plain good looks, and the OEM GT3 bumper from suncoast for the aggressive alternative.
If your budget allows for it, option #1, looks the best and it's OEM. If not option #2, not sure if it's wind tested. I'm picking it soley on looks.

Good lip should be about of $250 max. That is how they cost for pretty much any car out there, porsche style mold is not different nor more expensive than one for civic to produce.
plus it is quite silly idea to put carbon lip on IHMO as it will crack if you hit/scrub it too bad. it should be made from bendable material and be reasonably thin.

The one from Cargraphic is avaliable in either carbon or GFK, the latter at ~50% of the price:

FVD has a flexible one made of polyurethane:

In Europe, cost is ~50-60% of the price of typical carbon items.
Haven't seen this one in person, but it might look a tad too much like an add-on piece.

thats funny.. how did the car feel when u were going 150 with the spoiler ? was it stable ? compared to before the lip ? thx..
GT3Tec carbon new lip is $850 plus shipping, old one was $600+ - it is not just expensive, it is beyond ridiculous expensive.

the one from GT3tek ($475) is made of polyurethane and IS bendable.. good point about the carbon cracking, tho..

The OEM GT3 variation is surely designed to support that 3rd, center, radiator, more than for significant aerodynamic reasons.
From the front end, aero effects are by lowering the front end to the road, so there is less air gap under the front of the car, and the attached splitter, the flat horizontal part, that separates the flow of air going under and not under the car. Managing the flow of the air going under the car is the key to high speed aerodynamics.
The OEM version buys you the 3rd radiator option and the vent for it on top, which is a nice cosmetic upgrade (even if you don't install the 3rd radioator, for cars that don't have front license plates as that vent breaks up the long solid color of the hood from the windscreen down to the roadway.
