what happens if I use 10W-40

Guys,

In the middle of an oil change, I have accidentally poured 1QT of Mobile One 10W-40 High Mileage instead of the 0W-40 that was sitting right next to it. This was the first quart of oil that I poured.

Should I drain it? All I would be wasting is one quart, but would the next 8 quarts at 0W-40 not turn it into such an issue?

Thanks!

There will be no issue at all. No need to drain it.

After being revived my OCD would require draining, flush with proper oil then fill. If still not satisfied trade car in, lol.

Oil capacity = 9qts
Typical oil change replaces = 8 qts
7 out of your 8qts are 0w40
1 out of your 8qts is 10w40

Effective oil weight is 1.25W40

You're fine

Yeah that's the math I was using earlier but alas I did drain that quart and started over again. Much to my surprise the oil coming out wasn't necessarily super clean, it was still bringing out some of the dirty oil with it. With only 9k on the clock and on it's 2nd oil change now, I was surprised to find the oil "dirty".

Thinking about using Marvel Mystery oil (just topping it off with 3oz) in order to help keep things clean inside.

Also, my oil filter had a couple of micro mystery items in the pleats...hopefully this is not IMS related.

I accidentally put a half quart of 1.25W40 weight oil into my crankcase along with 8 1/2 quarts of 3W40 oil .... Should I drain all the oil and start all over?

Synthetics are blends, you will be fine.
Just don't overfill.

DO NOT ADD OFF THE SHELF ADDITIVES TO YOUR OIL

You want your oil to look dirty, that means it is doing its job. Combustion is a dirty process, and every engine has byproducts that get carried off by the oil. A good oil holds these in suspension (much of them being filtered out and the rest go when you drain the oil). An improperly formulated oil may appear "clean" but all that gunk is now trapped somewhere in your engine (sludge, deposits, etc)

I'm afraid you're going to give some opportunistic dealer an excuse to push people to have a crankcase flush along with their brake line flush.
