aerokit vs gt3 front
haha Larry, u misunderstood.
i brought up the other performance mods (ecu, headers, coils) only because i wanted to know ur opinion on other leisure-cab owners adding all those mods, not because those were my plan for my car..
so do u think those mods would be a waste of time and money since cab is made only for cruisin' ?
but the coils and other aero mods were well-advised for ur Turbo ?
and the whole thing about 'if i wanted to spend all that money, i should have gotten a gt3 to begin with..' seems little over the top.. since i only like the way the front bumper looks..
but if that makes me a wanna be..then i guess i am
never wanted a gt3 and i am def not trying to pose as one,
but there is nothing wrong with having a good taste.. lol
also i keep all my stock parts and try to buy used whenever i can.. so i can change my car back to stock, sell back the parts and recover most of my money.. but thanks for the warning re: financial freefall.

As for my Turbo . It's a different car , the Techart kit is specifically made for the Turbo , and at that time I was thinking of doing the Texas Mile . I still haven't given up on the idea .. just not sure if I am ready to risk my health and car at 190+ MPH . I have never driven that fast .. and I don't feel like any less of a person to admit I am chicken .
I do feel it needed the kit to acheive those speeds .
Was it worth plunking all that money into the Turbo ? I am not sure . In one aspect the 997.1 TT is the current Porsche breaking those speed records . The tuners haven't yet had the time to do this with the 997.2tt but the 997.2tt "S" is clearly the better car in stock form . Either way the turbo is a very different car than a 997S because it can respond with massive gains when tuned . That's why so many tuners have placed so much into time into the car .
Lastly --I did spend some money upgrading my 997S and if I had to do it all over I would have bought a Gt3 and left it stock . I like my 997S a lot .. but i don't love the car . It can never be a Gt3 . I do love my Turbo though .
I don't know if you relate to what im am trying to say but i just want you to know thst it comes from a good place in my heart in the hopes that whatever you decide gives you the best experience with your car.
good luck !!!
The most important thing is that you have to be happy . I would be happy for you no matter what you chose . You did ask for an opinion and when i give mine it really is sincere as if it were my own car . In fact I didn't put an aerokit on my 997S.

Just a random question. Have you ever driven a GT3/RS?
Jason
FYI, at this time, my leans: GT3 front (60%) Turbo front
(20%) As-Is (10%) and Open-to-other-ideas (10%)
jjc4scab posted a pic of my car on page two so I thought I'd at least chime in.
When I purchased my car, the original owner put on the GT3 front and Rinspeed rear before he even drove it off the dealer lot. He bought it new in the Bay Area and he basically said he wanted something a little different then all the other 911's in the area. He wanted to change the look up a bit, but keep it somewhat subtle (he said he never would have considered a wing for the back). When I got the car, I felt that it need something to balance out the front and rear so I added the TechArt sideskirts.
I tend to agree with the original owner of my car in that it's nice to have a little something different. Different strokes for different folks. The car guys that I meet at the local Cars and Coffee mostly have high marks for my car. When I've been to a few Porsche event, I can tell some purist think I've ruined my car. To each their own.
Not going to get into the aero benefits of adding my bodywork or what not. My car is strictly a weekend toy and that's the way I see it.
p.s. jjc4scab, thanks for liking my car. Love yours as well.

The quality is amazing . I know there are two techart dealerships and one is in your region . The guys in my region were outstanding when i bought mine .
Even though I pesonally vote agaist an aerokit on a 997s .. at least if one must do it .. the Techart is the best made . Unlike some of the cheap copy cat kits Techart not only fits perfectly but holds up very well in all types of climate and driving conditions.
Here's the Type 1 (like Joe Sharks which I happen to like the most of all the kits) . You can choose a vent in eitrher matte or carbon . You can also choose mirror inserts . I have them on my Turbo.

Here is a type 3 --
I prefer Type 1 .

Lastly --
This is a professional photo of my turbo and you can see how well it fits and looks with the vent (carbon) on my car . You also have the C90 wheels which have similarities with my C20's

i've considered the TA lip over and over again..
IMO, it looks great on a dark car (like justatoy.. or was it justaboy
)..
but for some reason, the line on the silver one doesn't flow as well.
but the main reason is the cost..
the TA spoiler cost over $1200..
too much $ for one little piece, IMO
if i can find a used one, i'd pick one up.. but for the money, i might as well pick up the gt3 front (which i think looks the best on 997)
i m considering a turbo bumper (w/ all lights incl) cause i like the look of that as well and i can pick up a used one for less than the TA lip..
but the little part of me (prob influenced by u, Larry
) wants to stay 'pure' - in which case i'll prob take off the TA sides, too..
the red car below is ROADRAGE's car. Its hot !

Now that you've included all other options, my vote is Turbo FTW. Roadrage's car is perfect.
From at least the angles I can see (any maybe because the red makes the lines stand out more then on black cars), that is one fine looking machine. Like; very much so.

and i can see Larry trying to knock some porsche-sense into me for wanting to look like a turbo. i know iknow.. if i wanted to look like a turbo, i should just get a turbo..

this is buddy's (C2SS) car..
can't blame me, right ?

But it gets worse ... here's why .
If I walk onto a used car lot and see a 997S with a replaced Turbo bumper the first thought in my mind is what type of collision did the car have ?
Even if a used car was in an accident there's less of a red flag if at least it eitther has a stock bumper , a 997S aerokit (OEM) or a Techart .
If Porsche wanted to place a Turbo bumper on a 997S they would have done it .
One more thing .. if you do place a turbo bumper on the car not only will the aerodynamics change but you also face scraping that lower lip which is very easy to do in the incline roads of So cal . This adds even more cost but I am not going to call it financial freefall this time .. instead I am trying to find some reason why you wold want this .
Lastly .. if you actually decide to listen to me and opt out . The worst case scenario is that you saved money .

yeah.. i am gonna see how bad the lower lip gets beat-up.. if its something i cannot deal with (even tho i am used to driving lowered cars) I'll have a bumper and TA sideskirts for sale..

look at me.. sounding like i already made up my mind.
