There are tons of threads on this topic. It all depends on your budget and your "sound/loudness" preference and EVERYBODY has a different opinion on the sound. I would read, listen to some youtube videos and before you choose, try to listen to setups in person. I had the sport exhaust and chose to just change the CATS and it's fine for me.

Smile where are the Gundo votes!!?

If you've heard a car with the PSE (porsche sport exhaust) option and liked it - then go for the "Gundo Hack". It's nothing more then having a muffler shop weld in a 3" piece of pipe where the PSE factory pipe would be on each muffler. search Gundo and there are lots of folks that like it more then expensive exh systems.
i did the "gundo hack" the very first day i had my car and can't stop grinning on every drive. Very easy to take the mufflers off in an hour max with only a floor jack (i guess if someone had rusty hardware - that could set you back, but my muffler clamps/nuts were 5yrs old and came loose fine). Cost $240. bucks for a weld job. Make sure the shop is proficient in welding and fitting such a mod. i rode around with my mufflers (and a detail photo of the hack.... i found using the search button) to 5 shops on a Saturday until i felt comfortable with mechanic. good luck

Tiptronic, 3.6L, 997.1 C2S, 2006

I'm digging, digging, digging, but still its hard to confirm before I buy.

I have a 2006 Carrera S coupe, 3.6L, Tiptronic tranny.

I want to get:
- Borla cat-back system #140234 - all specs and reqmts match EXCEPT, when I was skimming through the install manual for fun, it said "for manual transmissions". Ugh. Anyone know if this even matters? I want this kit. I got an email into them to see whats up.

- X51 headers. Where do I get them, standard Porsche dealers right? I called one local here in California, they want like 464.00 per header, which is higher I think than what I've been reading here.

- AWE 200cpi cats
I got an email into them making sure it is ok as well.

After all this I'm getting the GIAC ecu flash and cold-air intake - it will be dialed-in towards my auto tranny.

Thanks for your help

sorry

Full AWE way too expensive in general, and because I will only have this Tiptronic until I can pick up a PDK, I aint dumping an insane amount of money into it. $5k is the max for this. (this dollar figure includes ECU flash to follow the exhaust work).

But I certainly understand the "Full AWE" viewpoint for manual trannies !!!

Thx for your input.

I had a Fabspeed Full Cats/Exhaust/Tips installed on my 08 911S and I must say the sound (ZERO DRONE) and the power came out of the car and I would really reccomend them. Between Parts and Install = Happy Customer!!! Do a search on the forum for them.

Need advisement:::
I got word back from the parts person at Sunset about X51 headers: she said that Porsche targeted the 3.8L engines but not 3.6L, which is what I have.

Can someone suggest headers for my 2006 997.1 C2S Tiptronic 3.6L that are worth getting?

I'm getting the AWE 200cpi cats and the Borla cat-back system as well - I want to complete the run, not leave the headers alone.

Also, I dont use this on a track, I'm just a fiending street driver.
Do I need to worry about not passing DMV-required smog-tests if I get this exhaust work done? (and the GIAC ecu flash).

thanks for all your input guys!

peace

I don't have a 3.6, it's a 3.8!

So now the doors of normality have opened. My apologies for posting incorrect personal specs.

I appreciate everyone advising me here.

Gracias!

Hey Alexpod, make sure to check out the Fabspeed setup for your 997. We have a great combination of Mufflers and Sport cats that sound good and produce a nice power increase. We have a few different options, but if its a street car, I recommend doing our Maxflo Mufflers and X Pipe Sport Cats with our Competition Intake. PM me if you have any questions and for special member pricing.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, much appreciated.

Two Future-proofing questions before I dive in

If I get a full AWE setup for 997.1 S, will it pass a smog test if I ever get sent to one by California DMV?

Also, I dont drive track yet. In 2015, when the new Porsche track opens in Carson, CA, I will begin down that road (or sooner). Is having this new exhaust plus an ECU flash way too much for a daily driver?

Is it going overboard? [I have a TipTron. so I figure I can cruise when necc.]

The notes at the bottom of the AWE site say its illegal to get the nice cats and drive on the streets.
I'm only a daily driver at this point in California.
Anyone get a full AWE system and drive on the streets without phail?

What are the things I got to pray for

thx guys

I have a base C2 with Fabspeed Mufflers and Cats and love the sound and added power. It sure is purrrtyy too! Too bad you can't see it! I don't see the need for X51 or Fabspeed headers, but my understanding is that the S stands more to gain with Headers+Muffler+Cats.

Here's my thread on the install...
