yet another "odd damptronics noise" thread

i've searched but no posts seem to describe what i hear. '06C2S, damptronics, TPC sways.

the best way i can describe it is someone (lightly) hitting the bottom of an empty coffee can with a rubber stick - kind of a muted hollow metallic sound. the sound occurs when stopping at a light, just as the car comes to a complete stop and i hear it again when the car starts to roll, but not until it's moving a bit, maybe a couple mph etc. and it sounds like coming from the rear, maybe both sides.

FYI, unsure if its definitely the damps, but i never noticed this before install.

troubleshooting - i dont THINK it's:

---the brakes/pads/rotors - all bolts tight, happens on track or stock pads, and if it was a sticking piston, i would notice it when first applying brakes right?
---the PASM - as it occurs whether it's on or off
---the wheels or tires - happens on both track and street sets
---the force of braking/acceleration - occurs after hard or soft braking and whether slow or fast acceleration.
---the rear strut bolts - they are tight.

beyond this, i cant figure out what the hell it is! and it seems to be getting slightly louder. could it be the damps simply "shifting" fwd and backward upon final stop to a standstill/first starting to roll? could it be the hubs?

help with any ideas!!!

Do you have a roll bar?

Are you sure its not the sways? Might want to inspect the rear sway connection points. They are weak and can break.

no roll bar. (and have previously taken out bose box to be sure it wasnt that either.)

hmmm, i did eye them during last oil change and nothing looked amiss...but i did not torque test them. and come to think of it, when i had a clunking in the front once, it truned out to be the drop link/sway connection. so maybe i will check all connections in the rear later tonight.

Yeah its easy for either the bushing holder itself to break or for the bolts to strip through. My left sway bar connection point has one bolt that is close to stripped. I ended up putting a locking nut on the end of each bolt where it shows through the connection points to reinforce for the connection.

If its not the rear sways it could be that your rear ride height is too low and your bumping off of the inner bump top but that would mean you would be hearing the noise in most driving situations. Not just when coming to a stop.

If you have the Bose box out you might want to inspect the strut perches and just make sure the mounts are nice and tight as well. Not sure if you had the Damptronics installed or you did it yourself but worth checking.

I have had two sets of Damptronics and I never had an issue with them. My favorite coilover by far for these cars that see street use. I even liked them over my Motons. In my experience, coilover clunk/noise is generally caused by installation error.
