It depends...how are you going to use the car? Get it anyway, it is only a $900 option. I am surprised that the dealers didn't spec them all that way, with the X51 etc. They are out there if you look at the option list closely on each car for sale. GL.

You'll never use it on street and it oem LSD on the track will only last maybe 8-10 days.

See...I want the option. I would never opt to not get it on my car, but the dealers are not putting it in for some reason. I actually want LSD and sports suspension, but I can't find it with the other options that I want, so My personal dealer has the car I want coming in minus Sports Suspension and LSD. I can always lower it, but I don't want to mess with LSD?
Does it save the car in the corners?? I have had LSD's before but I don't have experience with them in a 911, so I was wondering how it effects the 911's performance for spirited driving? Does it save the car from spinning in a wet tight corner? etc.
Thanks
D

LSD comes with the Sports PASM option. I have this option and highly recommend it. Sport PASM is great on the street and the track and if you want the sport feel of a 911 then this is a must have option... Plus it lowers the car too.

+1. I have that option. I like the lowered and more sporty feel. You may want to drive one and make sure it's not too firm for you. I leave SPASM in normal for the street. At least 90%+ of the time. I think it's very cool.

Incorrect. The SPASM option has nothing to do with wheels.

I suggest you guys search over in the GT3 forum for a thread called LSD Buster. It's information that you should have when deciding whether or not the extra $900 for the LSD option is worth it.

However, I should also point out that the GTS uses the Aisin gearbox and LSD and that unit has been shown to be somewhat more durable than the GT3 LSD from the Getrag gearbox that is made by GKN. The flipside though is that we don't make a service pack for the Aisin LSD, and currently neither does Porsche. In fact, last time I checked, Porsche won't even sell you an Aisin LSD by itself. So, when you do wear out the Aisin LSD in your GTS the options become running your car as an open diff. going forward or buying one of our new units.

But nothing is set in stone. I've had maybe 3 or 4 guys this year ask me about rebuilding their Aisin LSD. It doesn't appear to me that there are that many 997s out there with LSDs and the ones that have them don't seem to be tracking them much and wearing out the LSDs. If that changes, and suddenly the phones start ringing off the hook from 997 owners with burned out Aisin LSDs, then we'll make a service pack. You just never know. Right now, every 997 Carrera raced in Grand Am that I know of that uses an LSD uses our unit.

Lastly, Giken has been threatening to make an 997 Aisin LSD unit for more than a year now. If they do ever release one, it will be at least $1000 less than one of our units. It could become a viable middle price point between the factory LSD option when ordering the car when new or paying all the money for one of our motorsports units.

Thanks for the info Mat. My 09 Carerra S (PDK) LSD is probably toasted due to 10-15 DE's per year.
