Thinking About Buying a Porsche - Need Input
Hello Friends
Im thinknig about buying a porsche. I work from home and always am checking autotrader.com to see the used porsches for sale.
Sadly, they are often already sold on there.
I want to spend 40-45k on a 2005-2006 Carrera S with 20-40k miles. Is it unwise to buy a porsche with 40k miles on it?
About a month ago there were MANY. but now its very slim pickings. I was thinking about getting one mid-may.
Have most people grabbed their porsches for the spring? Will I get a wide opportunity to get one again? Or do they usually sell out in the spring? Because its suddenly slim pickings.
Also, what are good places to look at to buy a porsche? I've found autotrader to be the best.. but I trust your opinions more than mine. God someone just had one on autotrader for 40k for a carrera (no s) with 12k miles. I shouldda grabbed it... but I think I want an S.
Just wanted to get your input..
Best,
M

These cars come and go quickly...stick to what you really want, although I know it's hard to resist the desire to pick one up. Haven't checked recently but there have been some nice CS for sale on here. Check out the for sale section on this site.
I just looked on auto trader with a price limit of 48K and pulled up 70 cars . 68 of them didn't get a second look . There was also one low mile car that has been listed for so long and that's usually not good. So that narrows it to two cars .. one was an "S" but the colors .. blech!!! vomit!! (I won't name the colors as to insult anyone) .
So I narrowed it to one car .. a Black C2 that looks real nice .. but you want an S.
Gotta wait.

Yeah I see tons of regular carreras by using AutoTempest.com and seeing tons on Craigslist.
I dind't realize regular carreras outnumbered the S's so much.
I'd prefer a manual, tan interior (although other colors are ok), black or dark dark gray exterior.
Thanks for looking.
Where can I browse on here? I cannot find the cars on this website.
.......
Is it def worth going for an S?

It's definitely worth going for an S and Sports Chrono.
Quick way to get ther...go to the bottom where it says "Forum Jump" in there click on the Autos For Sale thread under "Market Place"
I remember there are two nice CS for sale, both with an Aerokit option, which I think look very nice. Check it out

I happen to like Auto trader because they list the CPO cars . Cars.com is Ok too. Ebay tends to get a lot of cars from independent lots but I don't like the idea of bidding on a car . It's just not my style . Buying a used car is a big deal and it's my opinion that an authorized dealership or a sincere, honest and genuine private owner are the two best choices .
Base 997 cars didn't outnumber the "S" cars but you are in a price range where a pristine S is out of reach .

Here is a link to a couple...forgot to mention another awesome option = PSE (Porsche Sport Exhaust)

In my opinion .. this car looked nice, has warranty , and the ad has a sincere tone to it. http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false
Lucid, I just got a 08 C2S. It took me about 4 months of looking, 1 of those months were researching and looking online, then last 3 were serious looking and visiting lots of dealerships. I agree with PSTT07. You just have to be patient.
My recommendation is you need to figure out exactly what you want, come up with a realistic price estimate, set a firm upper limit budget in case you find a car with some extras or that is newer, and prioritize what is most important. Lastly, when you find the car that fits your criteria, don't hesitate.

40-45K range is a bit low for the "S" models, I would not settle for anything less, you will always wonder what the "S" feels like. Just wait, it's out there, I've seen a "S" for $42K but with really high miles. I wouldn't worry about high mileage 911 as long as they are not abused.
I hear many listings on Ebay are done because of the ease of posting multiple photos. If you see a car you like, just wait for the auction to end (most don't get sold) and contact the seller directly.
