997S VF-Engineering S/C Came!
Well, after a little over 1.5 months of anticipation, the VF-Engineering S/C Kit came! With the special deal from Vivid Racing, it was a no brainer for me. Dan from Vivid Racing was a pleasure to deal with and kept me abreast of my order. Very professional and courteous. Much appreciated.
Well here are some pictures of the updated Kit:
A few noticeable things at first glance:
1. The coolant lines have nylon-like sleeving over the rubber hoses.
2. Some of the hoses are already pre-bent, I guess to facilitate installation?
3. The K&N Filter has a plastic Heat Shield covering now, as you can see in the pix..nice touch
Now to go and read the instructions and find myself a lift .

Thanks Northvan. You are right, Justatoy and Cattman are good guys and great sources off knowledge for the S/C on this forum, aside from 1999porsche.
Lol...I may just do that! Thanks for the idea! Justatoy, I'm sure the Hawaiian weather is more enticing than the cold "North" this time of the year?

Comparing our weather right now to yours would be like comparing a supercharged Porsche to an NA one,LOL!

I'm not going to debate with you there .

JEllis: Yes, I'm loving it! The problem with more HP is that you want even more now .
WTFitsCarter: I've had the S/C for the past 2 months. Installation was not for the faint of heart, but with a lift and help from a couple of Porsche mechanic friends, it was more fun. HP is w/in 996TT territory, but not 475 to the crank, IMO. With the advertised HP, that would have put this kit w/in 997.1TT territory, but it does not feel that way. Hope you're getting yours installed soon.

Nicely done.
What size pulley are running, and how what's your boost at redline and WOT?
I am at 520-530 at the crank running 6.1 psi at redline and WOT, with a smaller pulley and some other tidbits.

Hey Cattman,
Good to hear from you. I'm running the 3.8 pulley from the kit. I have not measured boost at redline while at WOT. I spoke to justatoy regarding boost and it seems that the 3.8 pulley is making less boost than advertised. I spoke to VF and they say that the 3.8 pulley is making 6 psi at redline. They measure their boost at the TB like everyone suggested. They say that boost can be affected due to the plumbing (ie: Plenum, headers, cats, exhausts); however, the same 6 psi mass airflow is still going through the system. All I know is that it does not feel like a 475 HP to the crank.

91 and 93oct maps are different. Ambient temperature is different this can effect things too. If you have a stock exhaust or stock headers, this can make the car run differently.
To say what you have at the crank is moot considering the differences in how wheel horsepower dynos read and what % people calculate as drivetrain loss. Your car should feel significantly faster then it did stock. If it does not, you have a issue to check out.

According to VF-E, I believe they did their testing on 91 octane fuel to achieve the 120 HP gain to the crank over stock 355 crank HP. I'm running a mixture of 92 octane + 100 octane race gas to achieve a calculated 93+ octane. I have the 91 octane map, but was told that it would adjust accordingly to the octane level. I have IPD Plenum, X-51 headers, stock cats and Tubi Exhausts. I agree with you that crank HP is a moot point due to the variability of testings, as well as every car is a little different, and % drivetrain loss use to calculate; however, I'm using the quoted VF-Engineering number as the standard for comparison.
Regardless of whatever HP the car makes with the kit, I can say that the car is definitely quicker than before. I had 2 Porsche mechanics test drove the car after the installation to get their opinion on the kit and to confirm my "seat of the pants" experience. They both agreed that it's quicker than a GTS and within 996TT territory, not 997.1TT territory as you would think with the quoted 475 HP on VF-E's website.
In the end, I'm still happy with the kit as it did make my C2S significantly quicker than before.
