air intake question
air intake question
I have a 997.2, DFI. Interested in knowing if an air intake upgrade is worth the time and expense. Does it really improve the situation? Which brand is recommended. thanks.
This topic has been beaten to death if you search but I think it's fair to say that the gains, if any, are negligible. On the other hand, the sound improvement (particularly in the high revs), is worth the mod in my opinion. You might also consider just replacing the air filter, but be careful with oiled ones -- they can foul up your MAF sensor. Good luck.
its an italian filter about the same as K&N. oiled, never replaced. But its the only mfg that makes the 997.2 filter.
Take the air box out, take the screws off and open it and replace the 2 filters.

They don't need to ever be changed actually but they do need to be cleaned from time to time. You can clean them yourself but after cleaning they need to be re-oiled. ( There is a kit that contains the cleaner, oil and and instructions available for this.) However, the process of re-oiling the filters can be tricky and if you over oil them it can cause fouling of the mass air flow sensor in the intake. Essentially, all of the cold aftermarket intake systems come with the same type of cotton filters that need to be cleaned and re-oiled from time to time. But, they all offer the improved sound so it depends on how much effert you want to put into the fitlers.
