Heaven on a (shift) stick!

Hi Everyone, I'm here at the Porsche Sports Driving School in Alabama for a 2-day performance driving course. "Lowpue", another forum member and friend of mine is here as well. My PCA Zone asked me to write an article on the class, I'll post it here as well.

But the short story is: WOW! Incredible experience. Knowledgeable instructors who know how to teach, operations that run on-time with military precision, being able to drive Cayman S, Porsche C2S, Boxter S on events like skid pad, autocross, and the infamous Barber race track -2.3 miles and 16 challenging turns

Other fellow attendees were great company. About 60% Porsche owners (the other 40% will start looking soon, LOL)

Anyway, short note, gotta go catch some Z's to get ready for 2nd day tomorrow.

Take care,

Paul

Nice! I just came back from there about 2 weeks ago. Loved it. We were hit with the edge of a tornado (not the BIG one) on the second day which curbed our speeds and cut short some of the activities (i.e. hot laps). But great time nonetheless.
Hope to get back for the Masters in the future.

This is something that I REALLY need to do. No different than golf: it's usually better to invest in lessons BEFORE investing in equipment. Looking forward to hearing more.

Since I just moved back to a stick from a couple of PDK cars, I've realized that my footwork is crap. Launching from a dead stop is weak (ok once I get into 2nd). And forget about trying to heel/toe. These are some basics that I'd love to develop some level of skill around, much less improving my driving skills.

Enjoy!

Well, finished the second day. It was even better than the first. Had some great lap time with our own personal videos of our own performances....Frankly, as I sit here on the plane at 39,000 ft, I am re-living it all by watching the videos. I WANT TO DO IT AGAIN!.

The Track is beautiful but challenging. All the information is on the Porsche website. http://www.porschedriving.com/The-Track.aspx

THere were two team challenges on Autocross and the Skidpad and Paul and my team won both. However, the highlight was the track time...it was lots of it, but wish it was more :-) It was exhilirating and exhausting but I WANT MORE. It is not a question of it but rather and question of when....we are pretty sure we will do the Masters.

At the end we went on the hotlaps with the instructor driving a turbo and we rode with them....that was a amazing and made us realize we have a long way to go before we can really take advantage of these wonderful machines.

In addition, Everything was well organized.

They will teach heal and toe but I have a PDK so I wouldn't get a chance to practice. And you will need to practuice.

All in All I highly recommend and I can't wait until I do it again.

Paul will write a more detailed perspective.

DO IT!
