Fair Price?

Found a two owner 2005 Carrera with 17,000 miles in S. Florida. Silver coupe with the GT3 front and Techart side skirts and Techart Formula wheels. Lowered on H&R springs and asking $42,400. Does that sound like a fair price for a standard 997 with those mods?

Sure sounds like a decent price. Does the car have the options you are looking for? (Nav, SC, Bose, etc.). Also, a PPI will determine if it's the "right" car and a "good" price. Make sure PPI is performed by qualified shop, not affiliated to the seller, who knows what to look for.

I once made the mistake of trusting someone and ended up with a car that had prior paint work....... Good luck!

Grab it quick before some else does, that's a fair price for an 05'. Good luck.

Ask the seller to get the PPI and you may consider sharing the cost of that with him possible. Also have the dealer check the scan for the revs and paint. Good luck. Someone may have brought it up to ensure it is a 997 as 2005 was the end run for the 996 and the 997 launch - not sure on those details, but it makes sense to get car fax

Last edited by PFW_06C4S; May 6, 2011 at 04:14 PM. Reason: clarify the 996 to 997 and changed wording on split (meant to have the buyer and seller share the cost of the PPI)

It is the 997 and has the sports chrono and bose...no nav, but I heard Porsche doesn't make a great nav system. I plan to have a PPI once I see the car in person...it does have a few scrapes on the bottom of the front lip from riding low, but I think I can get it repainted for around $500...

Sharkys is infamous around these parts
1. Bottom part of front bumper is inexpensive to replace
2. Many short distance trips raise a concern given the low mileage
3. Check avg miles per hour when you do the PPI
4. New tires can add $900 - $2000 easy
5. NAV is OK - third party NAV have better UI generally speaking
6. Ensure all TSBs are performed - use as bargaining tool
7. Verify status of alternator cable to battery status - $900 at the dealer
8. Verify rear exhaust tips have been replaced - see TSB
9. Very AC vents including tabs/detent positions are functional
10. FAN and temp dials will be worn
11. Request full documentation - perhaps they were passed along

Agree on price contingent on PPI inspection and full DME. FYI, I purchased 05 Launch Edition C2S in the mid 40K 8 - 9 mos ago. Fully loaded, clean DME/PPI and all TSB performed - private party and no warranty. I would target high 30s - low 40s to start and adjust price pending your findings. Good Luck.

What does "Verify status of alternator cable to battery status" mean? Would the dealer look at this when doing the PPI?

The dealer replaced mine due to a known issue.
