Turn audio off on '05 997 PCM

I just bought a PO '05 997 "S" and can't turn off the audio when the PCM is on. I've read through the user manual a dozen times or more. I want to be able to run the PCM, nav. for example, with no radio or CD audio operative in the background. Help!

Look for the "Mute" option on the "Audio" screen.

PCM is a computer not a radio.

There is no traditional "Off" button. The PCM is a computer and it has a radio tuner and CD player connected/built in.

Think of your home computer, you don't turn off your DVD drive. It is just there and connected ready to go when you are. Think of your cars' radio as an application (part of your system software, so to speak). It runs in the background until you need it.

Pressing the volume button will mute the system, the computer equivalent of "Off".

Will muting CD/radio also mute nav. instructions?

Will muting system, as you suggest, also mute the nav. instructions?

Muting the audio will still allow the nav instructions and phone (if installed) to be heard. This is the way it works on my 06.

Having the multifunction wheel really helps in quickly muting the radio.
