Need advice in buying/leasing a brand new 997

I am a new member in this forum... so excuse me if I make any mistake with this very first post. But I will learn fast.

I need suggestion and advise from the members regarding a brand new 911 which I would like to buy/lease in two months from now.

Among two-seat sports cars, my only fav is Gallardo LP 560-4.
Only two 4 seat sports cars are in my dreams: Ferrari 612 Scaglietti and 911 base to 4S.

I was so happy when they announced the discontinuity of 612 as I dont have to save for 612, but can spend on 911 which has a reasonable asking price.

Currently, I drive a modest 4WD car and never have driven any luxury car. So, I dont have any idea in buying a luxury sport car such as 911.

I am not sure which 911 model to buy: 911 base, or S, or 4 or 4S. I dont like these 911 models: tagra, turbo, GT, speedster. If I am going to spend such amount on one of these models (tagra, turbo, GT, speedster), I would rather go for a LP 560-4.

I will use the 911 for day to day use. I will move to a place clsoe to the Canadian border where wheather condition is snowy. Not sure whether I should go for 4 or 4S as I heard that 4 wheel drive is a safe bet for snowy condition. But if this is not the case, then I dont mind buying a base or S model which will be slightly cheaper than a 4 or 4S.

In stead of buying, I am also looking for the option to lease a brand new 911 as I might have to move out from the US in three years time for family reasons.

I learnt that sport adaptive seat is a great feature for 911. Any other non-standard features I should add e.g. heated steering wheel?

Is the price dealer ask for a brand new 911 negotiable and price varies from dealer to dealer?
If I want to lease for 3 years, would it be good option rather than buying?
What is the regular service charge for 911?

Thank you all in advance.

I got very confused reading your post.

If you move to the States from Canada in three years after returning a leased car you are essentially starting a new life with no car ? That in itself makes no sense .

The Ferrari Scaglietti is very different than a C4S which is also very different from a Gallardo. These cars share nothing in common .

Based on these things you ask us to pick ?

Lately there are threads which have appeared like this one that make no sense .
Is it just an effort to generate discussion or are these posts written by juveniles ?

It's not just this thread .. I read post after post like this lately and sometimes a lot of the regular forum members really do take the time to answer the topic and by the time they are done the original poster no longer posts on the thread or appears weeks or months later to ask a similar question.

Agreed seems like another trolling post similar to the "Leaf" one a few days ago.
The grammar, sentence structure and syntax seem similar.

OP if you are serious try the "search" function. All of your questions will be answered.

sorry to confuse you all

Ok, please suggest me about which model to buy/lease: 911 base, S, 4 or 4S.

Purpose: day to day drive. the place where I will drive this car has snow seasons, so not sure whether 4 wheel capability for the car is preferred.

Need advise on: which model to go for? can i negotiate price with dealers? what is the average servicing costs? what features should I look for e.g. sport adaptive seats. Since I will be in the US for 3 years, I prefer to lease so I do not have to go thru the effort of selling it...

I am a new member, just last night I came across this forum. I am not expert in car, but love 911. Can't wait to drive one. I am not from Canada, and have never lived in a country where it snows...

Thank you all.

It even snows in Brooklyn.

Ok --lets talk about leasing and service for a moment . Had you leased a Ferrari and gone to your first service those monthly payments plus the first service would buy a used 997 base C2 outright. That's hoe expensive a Ferrari Scagllietti is and the type of pricing gap in your questions .

So .. buy or lease and what car for a daily driver in Canadian snow ?

I would pick a used Cayenne S as the ideal daily driver for heavy now on a fixed budget with a three year time frame to hedge depreciation and cost.

You won't have to replace rear tires for nearly1000 bucks every 10K miles and the general service cost as well as mileage depreciation is much less than a 997 under the same set of circumstances.

Thanks yrralis1 for the valuable info.
I am still very keen to drive a 911. We will buy a second car too.. probably a Toyota for those days when I think the 911 should rest inside the garage!

Any rough estimate on the servicing/maintenance cost for a brand new 911 (base, S, 4, 4S)?

None of my friends here dive 911, so I can't have answers from them regarding 911 owning...

The largest expense on a 911 are the tires . The rears wear anywhere from 7500 -10K miles . Some people plug or patch a flat but i don't . I replace both tires and keep the healthy of the two in case another flat happens .

Oil changes are not too frequent . i think a oil change is around 200 bucks or so . Every two years is a larger service but its not too expensive . I think the highest posted was something like 800 bucks but it's less from region to region . I paid less because as a long time multiple porsche owner who spends a lot on upgrades they offer me the coupon special if its avaialable.

It's really not that much even for a first time owner .

Figure 1500 -2K per year (if you get a flat tire) .

Thank you yrralis1

Seems like I have to budget around 3K per year for servicing / maintenance.

Now, I need to learn whether I can negotiate price for the 911 as I heard that the price varies from dealer to dealer.

Reading through the other similar posts, 4 or 4S should be the one I should go for if I need to drive on snowy roads... but on that part of the world, it only snows for 3 months a year. So, its not too bad!

With AWD cars (4S , Turbo ) used or new there's a price disparity from around 57K up to 130K .

Right smack in the middle of this price range is the 07 Turbo at around 80K .
Below it is the Used 07 and 08 c4S (57-63)
Above it is the Turbo PDK ----used (120-130) .

Leasing --
Will cost you with service , inceptions , finance fees , tax , surrender fees etc about 1800 a month (out the door cost) for a c4S . That's 64800 to rent a c4S for three years to end up with no car .

Another reason I would prefer leasing because if I have to stay in the US longer than 3 years, then I will end my lease for the 997 I will be getting by July and buy the new 911 model that will be in the market sometimes next year.

If I get a low K, used CPO PDK 4 or 4S in great condition, I am also happy to lease it. But looking at the dealers' inventory, the price difference between a CPO lowK PDK 4S and a brand new 4S is only 15K to 25K. So, I thought getting a brand new is a good choice as I will get reliability and warranty of a brand new car....

Owners of 911, please reply with as much as info you have on this... I will appreciate any such help. Thanks a lot!

there is a lot that goes into getting a lease price not just a discount on the car..
but any 2011 figure Min discount 5 grand any less then that walk you should be able to get around 7 grand off..money factor = lease rate try for around 0020 0022..
residual value this one is up to the dealer.
i have been quoted a gts cab 128k for 1800 a month and a S cab 1800 a month ..
GTS they where willing to deal more,,there not selling as the hoped..I was told.
also Gap insurance ..in case your car is stolen or totaled this will cover what your insurance does not pay.

Thanks tonka858 for sharing info.

I have been quoted around $1800 a month for lease of a new 4S. Also, insurance is about 3000 a year and they say it will cover everything in case of total loss of the car.

I dont believe car dealers and sales people that much... had bad experience before while buying other two cars in last 5 years. So I need to double check it ie.e insurance quote in writing.

Since snow is a consideration, I'd strongly suggest you consider a GTS4. You'll get all the goodies that come with the GTS (iincluding the 408hp motor), and all wheel drive.

Thanks NC 997 for the tip. I like GTS too.

I will visit 3 to 4 dealers, hope they have the right one for me in their inventory...

I hope I can negotiate their asking price... but I am not quite sure whether its OK to negotiate on the MRRP.

If snow is a consideration you need snow tires first. Even if you decide to get 4WD.

And IMO the ride height of the carrera makes it the limiting factor for deciding whether you will take it out in the snow or not. Whether its a C2 or C4.

good luck
